I bought this pc when it was listed here last Nov for $2200, great deal here.
Some things to note:
- a lot of complaints about cooling but if you're like me and it's kept in a room that has almost constant AC in the summer it's manageable.
- cooling is more an issue on the cpu for me, I experience thermal throttling under load bc the 120mm simply isn't enough for the 11700k. Idle temps around 45 degs.
- GPU is normally fine, ~75 degrees at 100% load during a gaming sesh.
- 3 m.2 slots as noted in the spec sheet. But one is for your NIC card and one is hidden behind the GPU. Would have to remove the GPU to access it. And of course the third is your C drive.
- the included WD black nvme ssd is gen 3. I upgraded to a gen 4 drive recently to max out my performance. Not really necessary for most use cases tho. Also, if you use both m.2 slots you won't get gen 4 speeds as the 11700k only has 20 pcie lanes (16x for gpu + 4x for one gen 4 ssd)
- lots of included bloatware. Mcafee, onedrive, lots of HP nonsense. Just uninstall all of it.
- fans can get pretty loud under sustained load.
- Windows won't go into Sleep Mode for some reason, it just cycles back on. Seems to be a common issue with HP Omens.

I'm overall satisfied, but I might look into a case swap later on so I could fit a 240mm or 360mm AIO on the CPU.
With EDU discount prices go down to $1,260. This should be on Front Page.
Coming from someone who owns two 30Ls (bought at the same time), these SUCK. PSUs are noisy trash, hotbox is the understatement of the century, fans are loud and rattly, the AIO is undersized, and the screws that hold the GPU in place strip if you loosen and tighten more than once, among many other complaints.

I've had both of my 3090 versions up for sale for months. I have them priced >$1K lower than I paid for them on sale just 6 months ago. I literally haven't even got a scammer text or an insulting offer worth of interest.

Never again. Buyer beware.

Anyone received the free gifts (omen headset, mousepad and gaming mouse) yet? I got two separate fedex tracking for desktop and gift items. Desktop arrived yesterday, but gift item tracking info still has status of "label created".

This is exactly what I don't understand. How come they cancel it for some people, but they deliver it for others? I put the order in pretty early on Friday before it sold out.

It sucks since I already ordered a Corsair 5000D case and a Corsair H150i cpu cooler, since I knew it runs warm. I found both on sale. I am hoping it will ship tomorrow morning, but I feel like it won't.

It was such a slick deal, but I guess I will be stuck with 8gb DDR3 ram, i7 3k series, and a 1050ti a little longer.

Did you see the FedEx package get shipped then recalled? Or the package never shipped

Mine is still on "Order Confirmed", but I received a different email stating that my order was canceled due to a price error.

Very frustrating since they posted the payment on my credit card. They said a 3-5 day refund, so if I were to be in an urgent need of a new computer and didn't have a large credit limit, I would've been sol.

The people who did receive this desktop and has been using it - thoughts so far, especially regarding stability and heating?

Thank you,

Oh, I have. I've spent over 2 hours learning about this desktop in the last week, but was specifically interested in the thoughts of Slickdeals members because there are a lot of comments in these forums about overheating desktop PCs by HP.

Thanks for the suggestion nonetheless,
Tofu Vic

I got this for my son's birthday to replace his aging laptop. There are plenty of folks will say they love it, then other camp will argue they can build a better one, heating issues, wait for the new 40xx, blah blah. But ain't nobody got time for that!

I debated building one as well, but for the pricepoint of the Omen 30L, this is an outstanding deal. I was about to go with the Omen 45L case since there have been very positive reviews for it, but I felt the case was too large and the 30L case was the right size I was going for. Out the box, the 30L was already running warmer for my taste as I was well aware of the heating issues and already researched quite a bit on fan upgrades to cool it down. There is also the option to swap out the omen AIO with the Arctic Liquid Freezer II AIO, but that requires taking out the mobo and ripping out stuff that would pretty much void my warranty. So I chose only fan upgrades for now and may do the aio later down the line if needed.

I got the following premium fan upgrades and found it dramatically cooled down the box very well

Noctua NF-A9 PWM 92mm for rear case fan, I used the noctua y-splitter 3-pin side so fan runs full speed, makes it slightly noisier but I've found it cools better instead of using the 4-pin variable speed plug.
Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM 120mm for aio. This was their quietest best performing static pressure model. There is a industrial model too.
Noctua NF-S12A for bottom of case blowing up with Noctua y-splitter to split the power for bottom case fan. I kept the front case rgb fan as-is for now.
Noctua y-splitter 4-pin 3-pack (found that the splitter has a 3-pin and 4-pin ends. I found using the 3-pin connection runs the fan full speed which helps pull more air)

Now the box runs much cooler than before. I'll look to add a couple of more fans in it once I get more time. There was a user that managed to add two more 120mm fans to the front after moving his hard drive mount and cutting a hole, and flipped his rear case fan to suck in more fresh air and now diverting the heat away from the cpu area and direct it towards the front exhaust, which actually makes perfect sense!

I got some black mesh sleeves to wrap the bundles wires to make it a bit cleaner inside. The 30L is very tight on space so hiding wires is much tougher. I'll probably get around to a more efficient wire management setup later down the line.

Overall, happy with the purchase!

Thanks for your review! I truly appreciate you taking the time to tell us about your experience with this desktop, as well as specifically listing the fan upgrades you've made to it.

Take care!
