That's also a good deal but the letdown is the display which is just 45% NTSC or around 60% sRGB. In T14/14S series, you need to pick up the 400 nits option for the 1080p panel to get 100% sRGB. If that doesn't matter to you, T14 one is a good deal too.

I got this quote a few days ago when the model briefly appeared with the CLEARANCE2022 code eligible for use. Don't think it is available now, but chatting an agent for a quote to decide later on is something I often do since Lenovo allows it / you usually get a 5% discount.

I know it sounds a lot. But keep in mind that only 10 percent Thinkpad sales is to end consumer, business users don't care about the price.
I just requested similar spec dell laptop (xps15 creator edition) for my team, and guess what, it is about 3100 usd each.

But don't they provide huge discounts to corporates when purchased in bulks along with extended warranties? XPS I can understand as that's not really falls under Dell's work laptop series.

while there are some discounts, but the discount maybe smaller than you think. what most large corporate do is actually lease laptops from HP or dell. and HP or Dell also do all the IT/tech support (like VPN or login problems)discount is often only applied toward a very limited SKU so most engineers just get whatever they want aside from corporate laptop.

what most home user don't understand is there is a process that corporate needs to follow for auditing purpose. the purchase request is often handed by dedicated buyer. and he/she charges his/her hours to buy your stuff. often about 1000 dollars extra per purchase order. so the price of the laptop themselves are almost never an issue.

Yea, these are never the real prices. This has been Lenovos MO for a long time. List a high price and "discount" it be competitive in the market. This makes it hard to know when there is a true sale as well. However when they use "clearance" verbage...it's typically good .

I got a similar deal a few weeks ago when the other Z13 deal was posted, which I posted about in the other Z13 thread.

I opted for the 6860Z vs 6850U, Vegan Leather, and W11Pro vs W11Home, I prefer Pro as I am used to pro version which we use at work.

My total came out to $1703 getting $102 in Lenovo rewards and at the time 12% ($204.24) in R10 cashback(at the time) so I think in the end I got a better deal.

The Z13 is being compared to the XPS13+ saw the reviews today and have to say both look like awesome travel laptops, Lenovo really stepped it up this round.

The Asus Zenbook S UM5302 at $1300 seems to have a better OLED screen (500 nits /550 nits peak) and twice the hard drive space but only half the ram and a 6800U as compared to the 6850 pro. A lot of the Pro features seem to focus on security which I don't need to pay for and probably a little extra speed — so that's probably not worth $320 and half the hard drive . 32gb ram is overkill now so the only issue is whether 16GB should still be good in 5 years . Right now I'm thinking the UM5302 unless I'm missing something.

Having zero idea on what one would need as far as specs go, would this be a realistic choice for a college laptop computer?

They tried to get rid of the trackpoint buttons with T440 series and everyone hated it. Why are they trying this again? I was a bad idea before and is still a bad idea. Also very small arrow keys and no dedicated pg-up and pg-down. It is as if the designers of the computer did not actually regularly use computers.

You can get a perfectly decent one for half this price. Of course, this one does have specs like 32GB RAM, but it's extremely unlikely any college student needs that much RAM. If they do they already know. You're also paying a lot for the OLED display - I love them for TVs, not so much for laptops. (For college students in particular, the high-gloss display on this is a poor choice, as it means a ton of glare in the library / classroom.)

For 99% of college students, you're far better off buying $800 laptops and simply twice as often, vs spending $1600. There are even Ryzen 6000 laptops for around $1000. A couple of weeks ago there was a great deal on a 14-inch HP EliteBook (top of the line business class) for $600 or so; that was Ryzen 5000 but still Zen 3. This is a "luxury" laptop for those with more money than they know what to do with.
