They have the high velocity 20" version for $60 and it's much stronger and more durable.

The price for this is great though. I use the 20" box fans with a 20 20x1 MERV11 air filter mounted to the rear of it, and it makes a very effective, and inexpensive air filter . (Some people even make 3d printed brackets)

Agreed. I liked using a 20x20x1 merv 8 filter on a box fan over the winix hepa filter from Costco. I used to feel the difference when walking into the house after 6-8 hours of running. I don't experience that with the winix.

I just picked one up today, it is not loud. It's just as loud as the regular Lasko ones and it puts about a bit more air.

Does any one know if the fan blades are metal? Or plastic.

I never did hepa due to the fans lack of pull (They claim 2000cfm on high... I definitely didn't see a 2k cfm on mine lol. Buy I'd assume in optimal situation, and a perfect pitch/balance blade, it might do 2k?) A merv 11 20x20x1 cuts the flow in half (at least) So I always assume a hepa would be more than it could handle? But I'm unfamiliar with the particular filter you mentioned.

Use a filter with 4-5" depth. Or make a Corsi-Rosenthal cube(aka 4-5 1" merv 13 filters arranged into a box shape). Single 1" filter will burn out your fan faster.

These look suspiciously like the same lasko fans that sell regular price Walmart for $20. I'm sitting in front of one as I'm typing this.

I wouldn't use it past the first setting indoors, even that would probably be loud enough to annoy some people. I just use them for cooling in the garage.

That filter clogs quickly (at least in my dusty environment), and severely limits airflow to the point where I could barely feel the fan after about 2 months.

I am also. I put it on a $5 smart plug to turn on/off with Alexa

This is the hepa filter I'm talking about

https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/732328

I thought it would be better with a hepa filter with a charcoal prefilter but I don't notice any difference in air quality on Turbo speed all day in the way I did with the box fan and a merv 8 filter. I'm going back to the box fan once I burn they all the filters on the Winix

Agreed. Made one myself about 6 months while back. More cost effective and efficient than spending $200-400. Noise is definitely an issue tho. Better to run it at night and maybe on low during the day.
