Yup. This is the truck of the shoehorned in woke character who didn't add anything to the plot and was just added for diversity points.
I like representation of normally ignored or disenfranchised groups in film and TV but only when it makes sense for the story. In this case it didn't add anything to the story and wasn't necessary at all. Maybe I'm weird but in my opinion romance and sexual identity politics don't belong in kids films at all. Hetero or homo, I don't care. Kids think kissing is gross and don't want to see it so why add it into the film?
There's a reason the Minions movie made twice as much money even though Lightyear had Disney and Pixar's names and reputation behind it. Leave the identity politics arguments for the grownups and just let kids have fun.
