Let me answer your question in details because the same name will confuse a lot of people. That Laptop and this Laptop, although belongs to same Yoga 7i 16 Facility and looks more or less same, they are actually different laptops with different internal cooling solution, battery and thermals.
This model is a big 16" UltraBook 2-in-1, just like LG Gram 16 and using a P series Core i7 which is 28W to 56W TGP, no dedicated Graphics and a smaller 73 WHr battery. Also internally, it has normal UltraBook level cooling solution. This is suitable for your daily normal workloads like documentation and office work, basic photo and video editing etc.

On the other hand, that $1299.99 version is the high performance Laptops like Dell XPS series but in 2-in-1 form factor. That has H series 12th Gen Processor options, 12500H and 12700H (on that specific model), Intel Arc370M dedicated GPU which is more or less equivalent to a RTX 3050 and a bigger 99.9 WHr battery. Also the internal cooling solution is a lot more powerful to handle the powerful hardware, with 2 fans and a lot more thermal plates and heat pipes. If you are looking for a higher end productivity machine for say a lot of 4K Video and photo editing, Huge coding an complication, rendering etc. then that machine is very suitable.
Then just use it as normal Laptop. I mean the price is pretty good and you'll hardly find any even normal Clamshell Premium laptop like this one at this price. If it costs a lot more for the 2-in-1 functionalities then I can understand your argument but here, not so more.
Also, if you are using content creation or a digital artist or lot of of photo editing, having Touchscreen with pen support does provide a lot more granular controls.
That was the 850 dollar one with the i5. This is the i7, it's not the same laptop.

Maybe it's just me, but the 16-inch form factor is too big for a 2-in-1

I agree. Main reason I couldn't get that interested in the LG Gram 2-in-1 at Costco.

If you want a 2-in-1, 13 or 14 inches is the sweet spot. If you want a larger laptop, you likely wouldn't want a 2-in-1 in the first place.

ITT if you buy a 2-in-1 you're somehow forced to use it as a tablet.

Do you think the 1299 ver is worth the extra dough?

I really like the idea of 32gb ram.. But 1299 seems high and I don't mind waiting for black Friday and would prefer 500 nits

Couple of things:

1. I want a 2-in-1, so saying "just use it as a normal laptop" doesn't meet my needs.
2. Why would I pay extra for a 2-in-1 design (and it is an upcharge) to not use it?
3. You can find plenty of premium laptops with similar specs for that price, or less.

ITT: You have to agree with all form factors of 2-in-1 machines and are not allowed to voice differing opinions

Not really a great deal considering this was around $50 cheaper a few weeks ago at Lenovo.
Still a pretty alright deal nonetheless.

He can't and you know that. These folks mainly here to use SD as their grievance forum and posting their imaginative prices. Plenty premium laptops with same price he claims but did he bother to even mention a single example, no.
