beer can chicken is a fad that doesnt work and makes sub-par chicken. its a pretty well known joke amongst the smoking/grilling enthusiasts. if you have one and like it, then mroe power to you, but if you are considering buying one and havent read up on it, do a quick search around the internet and smoking and grilling forums/subreddits/etc. if you are interested in making a whole chicken look up the spatchcock method.

Now, if only I can find a SD price for chicken ?!?!?!?

By the way, how can Sam's Club sell cooked/grilled chicken for less than raw ?!?!?!

Suppliers, quality of meat, number of hands that need to be paid, etc.

Costco sells baked chicken at a loss, but it's located at the back of the store. As soon as you put another food item in your cart, they've broken even and they've made a profit from item #3 onwards.

Sell it at a loss, make up for the loss with the sale of other items.
Same reason why grocery stores have produce and bakery at the front of the store and milk, eggs, bread at the rear of the store. The colors of the produce and the smells of the bakery entice you to buy more and you have to go through the store to reach essentials which increases the chance you will buy something else. Same concept applies to restaurants and the menu layout, color schemes they use, etc.
There are entire courses in colleges that teach these things.

And notice how there's always at least one super high price item on the menu (e.g. $50 steak) to make you think the $28 pasta is a good deal...

That $50 steak (or whatever high priced option there is) usually has less profit margin when compared to the pasta (in this example)

yep . . . the idea was that the most sold items (necessities) are in the back (milk, eggs, bread, beer, toilet paper, meats . . .), so that majority of traffic can be triggered by additional impulse buying on their way out. and before the final exit trigger hunger impulse with 4x the price of snacks and drinks.

if you spend $60K on a tesla, you are more likely to spend $200+ on floor mats for it. In contrast if you would have purchased a used $15K car you would look for a best low cost mats for it.

same logic, if you buy a new house . . . you are tempted to get new furniture for it.

the point . . . you can't trust the system [youtube.com]

I bought pizza stone and cast iron grill marks press from them when it was on SD last time around. Pizza stone came shattered into 5 pieces. I called Focus Camera. They gave me 2 options: either get the refund or they will send me a new one. I chose the second option. Grill marks press is hugeeee. Atleast bigger than I expected. I was expecting it to be palm size but it's way bigger. I wanted to return it but it's not free. Return is only free if your order was more than $35. Otherwise you pay the return shipping 😭. So I ended up keeping it.

Back to the topic of chicken... I could see this work if you covered up the chicken entirely in foil, you could get a really nice moist oven beer steamed chicken. Grilling beer is just nonsense though.

If you think about the science of it though, that wouldn't even work. The internal temp of the chicken is safe to eat at 165. And since the beer is at the middle of the chicken, it gets barely above that temperature. So the beer never actually turns to steam. Even if it did, you've essentially plugged the small opening of the can with the chicken, so no steam is getting out of the can.

I bought the exact same beer can chicken contraption from Amazon 10 years ago. Turns out phenomenal everytime - my favorite recipe is Jamie Oliver's dry rub beer can chicken recipe. Use a light beer (eg Bud Light) for best results. Trader Joe's regular whole chicken is also my Go-to. Another secret to get extra juicy chicken is to plug up the hole where the chicken head was (I just plug it up with the chicken liver that comes with the chicken) - the juice inside has trouble escaping when it's plugged up so when you cut the finished chicken, juice literally gushes out of the chicken. Whenever I visit my mom, she always asks me to make it for her.

beer can chicken is the best way to grill chicken. It makes all the skin crispy. You dont even need the beer can part, just a way to make the chicken stand up so you get maximum crispy skin. I prefer toneys cajun rub on the chicken and with the beer can, the beer helps make the chicken moist. The most important part to any chicken cook is to monitor temps. When the breast is 160 degrees, pull it out and let it rest. Then carve when ready to eat. perfect every time!
