Can anyone confirm it triggers the 3% by paying through PayPal with this?
Yes, but I only made legitimate purchases.
Be careful with American Express.
Others have reported that AE is very particular about what you are "buying" especially to get the sign-up bonus.
I guess it really depends what the stores are for 'online retailer', but looking at my Amex this past month, I had to make a ~$2700 business related purchase from a printing company and used my amex to pay for it thinking it would be 1% back, then paid the amount off immediately, ended up getting 3% back so about $83 on that one purchase. They're a very small, one off printing company but it counted as 'online retailer'.
edit; paying my ATT internet bill was 3% back too.

They also have an offer to get 10% off home internet services under offers. Some may not get the offer but most do.
With a bit of research, you can get $350 SUB ($200 CB + 10% Dining statement credit for $150 credit). So if you spend $1500 in dining, you'll get $150 credit and just need to spend $500 on anything else for the $200 SUB

It's hit and miss. It didn't for some humble bundle purchases.

Bought macbook $1700 the other day. Got $50 cashback (3%). Pretty decent for being a free card 😎
For me, it is only 200$ sign up offer.
