I've held off for 5 years. What's another 4-5 months?

Read a techpwup article saying that gtx overstock is at full blown crisis levels and that board partners are upset and demanding assistance selling stock with incentives and demanding the 4000 series release be pushed back farther or that they may not take orders.

They were estimating 3080 at 499 was necessary to move stock in time.

Didn't another article come out saying that Nvidia might be delaying most of their 4000 series lineup to next year to give vendors way more time to move the inventory?

I have heard that as well. But also there is some speculation that the power usage spikes like 3x worse than the 30 series so they're trying to fix it.

Basically if both are true, it's definitely getting delayed.

I get waiting for the high end GPUs but realistically how much lower can a 3070 go? I mean, is the idea to wait a year to save $100 on a $500 card? The same card was over $1000 last year. If you need a card now and a 3070 meets your needs, this is a great deal.

The MSRP of a 3070 is $500. The fact that it was overpriced by $500 last year means nothing to me other than a fool and his money are soon parted. Getting excited over a two year old car selling *almost at* it's MSRP is just sad. Going by the history of graphics cards, the 3070 should be selling well under it's MSRP by now, say the mid $300 range.

What we're experiencing is nothing like history. Everyone is speculating. If you want to wait, go for it. If you want to buy, go for it. Either way, just prepare to be OK with your decision regardless of how things turn out.

In terms of prices dropping, prices tanked from an extremely inflated rate to a more normal one. From a business perspective, it makes little sense to tank it further at the same rate, so while we might see the prices trickle down a bit further, not sure if you'll see any kind of fire sale. So the cost/benefit of waiting more for further price drops is decreasing as time goes.

This is cool, msrp-ish.. but I don't know anyone who has wanted a GPU that hasn't bought one by now. Think the makers can be left holding stock while they previously made money hand over fist.
