Anyone have hands-on experience with this one? Doesn't seem bad for the price.

Appears to be attempting to occupy a niche similar to the lower-end Acer Spin 713 that I have (with an i3, 4gb of RAM, and a 64gb eMMC drive), and at a similar price point.

This would be above the lower-end (e.g. $100) Chromebooks, but right below the upper-tier Spin 713 (with an i5, 8gb of RAM, and a 128 or 256gb [true] SSD) that usually runs $500+.

I don't have any gripes with chromebooks in particular, but that Pentium sounds woefully underpowered

The refurbished Acer 713 i5 8gb ram deal that was posted not too long ago is the best value Chromebook deal going currently.

Same crap different year.

i've seen a couple people point out that a pixelbook, even at five years old, is going to perform better than most budget chromebooks available now, with generally better hardware. downside is last updates in 2024, but as i understand it google's solving that problem by separating chromebook os and chrome browser updates. they're available around 200. too risky? thoughts?

It's a Chromebook and that CPU is more than adequate for running Chrome OS. Have you checked any of the benchmark scores or any reviews of Chromebooks with these 4 core Jasper Lake CPUs? I guess not but you gave to play the smartypant here. Looks like friends don't let friends listen to your suggestions should be a better suggestion.

This should be quite fast for a Chromebook with 8GB of DDR plenty enough for multiple tabs. I have had 30+ open on my 8GB I3 with no problem.

I would not suggest this for Windows but for Chrome it is fine.

Could you explain more? I was wanting to run Windows 10 on it.
