  • About this Deal:
    • Comes As Is: Warranty does not apply, and we do not accept refunds or returns
    • What is distressed inventory?
      • Every once in a while, we overstock an item, and it ends up sitting in our warehouse for longer than we'd like. When that happens, we take some of the mattresses out of the box and let them decompress to see how they're doing. Some of the mattresses we took out of the box didn't decompress as much as they should, so the overall performance and comfortability aren't as consistent as we'd like.
    • What does that mean for you?
      • When you buy a distressed inventory mattress, that means the mattress isn't perfect and the performance and comfortability vary from item to item. However, you're also getting a great deal on one of our most popular mattresses. We do not accept refunds or returns on items sold as is. All sales are final.

I bought several mattresses two years ago that were tightly rolled up and sealed. The manufacturer is owned by a friend of the family. He explained how revolutionary the process is and how the mattresses would be shipped for far less money but expand perfectly upon arrival. Well, they didn't. Apparently they sat on the truck for too long and all of the mattresses did not fully expand in the corners. We got such a good deal on them, and being sent from a friend, we did not say anything. But that's the last time I'll buy a mattress that comes rolled up. I absolutely believe that some of these mattresses may not fully expand just like what happened to the corners of my mattresses.

Bed in a box can, and will degrade over (much) time. Coils want to be decompressed back to their natural state. That said, a good hybrid with individual pocketed coils will only show minor, and targeted defects, even in worst case scenarios. Think of it as you might a TV, wherein one pixel blows instead of a whole panel.

Innerspring with typical interlocked coils? "Pillow tops" made from rejected cotton balls? Couldn't pay me enough to go back to that ancient, dated garbage. Technologies change. Some people's opinions don't simply because they don't try new things.

This is probably a safe/good buy, but because it's only an 8" mattress, don't expect top tier quality.

This smells like a clearance under the guise of "distressed inventory". There's tons of inventory in retail channels right now and one way to get rid of it while protecting your normal price is to pretend like there's something wrong with the inventory. I mean, even their explanation seems iffy - the idea that a mattress in a box won't expand to full height because it's been in the box too long? Hmmm....
Probably in for one.
Both my ghost and Luna mattress in a box had big stickers on them that said open within 72 hours of receiving. Must be some truth to it.

Oh I'm actually 100% against mattresses in boxes. Like a cheap innerspring that has never been rolled up is infinitely better than even a very expensive mattress in a box. It's almost a scam they are running on people. I was going to pick one of these up for a spare mattress just to have but I will never go back to any mattress in a box for my actual own bed - memory foam is a terrible alternative to a nicely padded, high quality innerspring with a pillow top even if it's a cheap one. In fact, now I'm second guessing myself and probably won't buy one. My guests deserve better.
Silly.

I bought a Casper "bed-in-a-box" 7 years ago. Still haven't slept on a more comfortable mattress and it's not showing any signs of wear.

I also recently bought a hybrid mattress for the RV, it came in a box. Nothing wrong with it, unrolled and expanded just fine.

Better than dealing with annoying sales people at a mattress or furniture store.

What do you mean the gel tops sweated too much?
I meant the 4" foam topper pad from HD was soaked overnight from my sweat. It was cheep way to test them out and supposed to be cool gel or something. This may be entirely different situation and again cheap enough to try out but no returns.

Can you provide some sources for your claims? I've heard about the fiberglass issues but haven't heard anything about actual issues from the odor.

Also the bed in a box I just bought (Ashley) has no fire retardant chemicals and had no odor when I opened it up.

The toxicity in the US mattress industry started to become an issue of question in the last 20 years or so after various state and federal regulations mandated fire-retardant technology to be used in mattresses. Many claim this has resulted in chemical usage that has the potential to cause significant health issues that creep up over time.

So, Google is your friend on this, pal. Prepare to go down the rabbit hole. Search for the word "mattress" along with any combination of words like: toxicity, foam toxicity, fire retardant, formaldehyde, pfoe, pfte, voc, off-gassing, benzene, carcinogens, etc.

ALL foam mattresses (of which this mattress is made — see Amazon q&a and reviews sections), are 100% guaranteed to be manufactured with one or more of the above. The only types of mattresses and bedding guaranteed to be free of them are 100% latex, 100% cotton, or 100% wool. And they are very expensive. There are many third party "certification labels" that attempt to "validate" (through their own scientific research and testing) the healthfulness of mattresses, but the only ones that I personally trust are GOTS, GOLS, OEKO-TEK and eco-Institut. I would not trust CertiPur, as it is rumored to be created by mattress manufactures themselves to allegedly counteract, obfuscate and confuse the playfield.

You decide if any of this is true, false or worth your time to worry about. I'm of the mindset that while none of us can avoid 100% of environmental threats, it is our duty to avoid as much as we possibly control (diet, vices, etc, and chemicals too). Quite simply, it results in a more enjoyable and less encumbered existence, afaic.

Either way, wise of you to be inquisitive about a product that'll be inches away from your brain and lungs for roughly 1/3 or your life.

You can replace your carpet with this. $125 for a king (42sqft) is like $3/sqft.

Compared to a luxury carpet is $2.5/sqft with $0.5/sqft padding.

buy 6 of these and make an entire room that's all bed!

I've owned two Linenspa mattresses (Twin 8-inch , and Full 10-inch). Idk anything about "distressed" but this is definitely a good deal since even the twin is usually over $100. BUT I personally would never go back to the 8-inch, it feels like the bare minimum and you'll want something better after a few months. Overall its just too thin, sometimes I could feel the bed frame even just sitting on it. and I only weighed 160 lbs. It was so thin that I could fold it up and it'd fit in the trunk of my economy sedan (which was convenient I admit). In terms of overall quality though, I think its alright since I never had any real problems sleeping.
The 10-inch is obviously much better because the memory foam top layer is thicker, but even then its pretty basic. I recommend this brand to young guys on a budget who don't want to buy a sketchy used one.

How does this compare to a zinus green tea mattress? We got one for the kids room in a full size and it it HARD. Good if it was a 10 or 12 inch, but we opted for the 8 and when i need to sleep with him due to monsters in the room, i wake up all sore due to being a side sleeper. Plus the child does not sleep well either, i assume due to mattress. Wanted to buy a 2 inch foam topper this weekend finally, and now this deal popped up. Anyone can provide feedback on comparison?

It's 2022 and if you're concerned about unsafe chemicals, you're a conspiracy theorist
