It's a decent deal, for sure, today. And after Aug. 1st - when the price for every quest 2 model is increasing by $100? A good or great deal. From what I've read of those picking up refurb units from authorized sellers (like Amazon, Walmart, and the authorized ebay store [ebay.com]), the units come in looking new so saving $50 at the least may be worth it. You will likely be unable to use any referral credit or promotions as these are not technically new units, but regardless, given the coming cost increase in a few days? Still likely worth it. (And on the ebay store the units come with a 2 year warranty so it's not too bad whether one buys a refurb or new, unit.)

As well, starting next month one can make a new "meta account [oculus.com]" and use that instead of having to use a facebook account. Would recommend anyone interested in jumping in to do so now, before the cost jumps.

EDIT: Will say though, most will be plenty fine with a 128gb unit rather than the 256gb. Most games are small in storage, like a few gig at the most, and there's maybe one or two games with a larger storage hit of around 35-40gb. And most every game now has cloud saves enabled so it's easy to delete games or apps to make space and re-download later and pick up back where you were in game.

I'm on the fence here. I was an early adopter of the oculus rift dev kit... But wasn't able to use it much because I get motion sick. Wish I knew someone local with one of these, so I could test this before dropping money.

Also not really sure how much this will grow, but don't wanna miss out. That's really what it is for me. I don't personally see VR growing a lot for a while though, since we are seeing prices skyrocket, talks of food shortages, and whatever else... Just don't see people dropping $400-$500 to see fake animals and stuff overlayed. They want people to join their expensive second life clone, but they haven't so far given a good enough reason for people to care...

It also seems that a number of games need a higher end "VR ready PC"... It isn't as if this is completely standalone. More than that, there's some peripherals that are strongly recommended - like a different head strap, a battery mod (because the internal Quest 2 battery only lasts like 3 hours & supposedly the battery counterbalances the rift to make it nicer to wear), a 3rd party communication cable for the rift that doesn't cost $80... No idea about other recommended peripheral stuff yet.

As for what I would maybe use it for if I buy... A few games like Walking Dead, Half Life Alyx, Phasmophobia, VR experiences like walking sims or workout stuff maybe.... But I'm also curious about work station related things. Like watching YouTube study videos and not being distracted by what's going on around me. And I've seen there's ways to watch videos and also do other stuff. Not sure if note taking would make sense while in VR though, or how you'd " keep" the notes. Watching movies might be interesting too, but as someone more comfortable as a side sleeper while laying down, I'm just not sure if this would be comfortable when you're laying on your side.

One concern about gaming with this though is that I don't have space to be walking around. So anything requiring standing and walking is just gonna be a no-go for me. And I'm not sure how tiring it'll be spinning around and stuff. I want the option to look around with my head, but I also wanna be able to use a controller/keyboard/mouse too

Thoughts? And any recommendations for other peripherals?

Edit: I figure the 128gb is more than sufficient, but I know how lazy I can be about backing up stuff... As well as how abysmal the experience of backing up phones these days is, so if data transfer to the oculus is just as painful, maybe it is worth using the 256gb one over the 128gb. I think I saw the oculus only accepts USB 2.0... Which is very silly if that's true

Can I suggest that anyone that sees this deal thumbs it down not to make the person who posted it feel bad but to show that Mr Zuckerberg is going in the wrong direction

It is usb 3.1 specifically to link with pcvr. However now with airlink and virtual desktop those that play pcvr do it wirelessly.

350 for a face rash seems like a bit much.

$349 is for the 128GB NOT 256GB!
$399 is current deal for 256GB!
Please correct this listing
