You won't find them, don't worry about it. These threads are sponsored by big oil to get everyone to run out to Walmart. Then to save face everyone will be claiming to "score" multiple PCs, trust me, they are all full of *hit.

did you see the more recent posts that components seem to vary in these machines? e.g. the trackpad on a blue machine was much better than a black machine or vice versa. Not sure if it relates to the color, the year built, something else, all of the above....looking forward to seeing if anyone finds some indicators of how to tell which machines are better than others
Yep. I did see that. The one I purchased is a blue one. Says June 2021.
The Gateway didn't automatically ask to update to windows 11 even after checking for updates multiple times. It didn't say there was any errors though like one poster was dealing with. I just had to use windows install assistant to prompt the download.

How can you tell date

I have a black one. I am looking only at the outside of the box
btw, I saw you were trying to decide between the acer and the gateway. Im keeping both. I think they are both crazy deals but note that Target had the Aspire 5 on clearance for $188 so some people might be spoiled from that deal. that was just nuts with the 5% target red card.

I think im just going to have to open mine up this week and do a review. Only way to tell what the differences are. Sounds like the biggest differences to look for are TPM 2.0 bios issues and trackpad issues.

u keeping both. but which do u like better?

initially i was gonna keep the acer, but maybe the GW is better...

btw..will be used exclusively by 10th grader, coming from a POS chromebook, that she loved...lol (mostly cause it had touch screen)

I remember seeing that deal posted. They were all $529 in my area Frown
So far I like the Gateway better. If it had the Acer brightness, It would be 10x better.

The acer feels super plastic and breakable to me in comparison to the gateway. There is a slight difference in weight, Gateway being a little heavier.

I prefer the shape and modern look of the Acer. Gateway is a bit round and thick. Not a deal breaker for me though.

Gateway battery lasted about 45 mins longer than the acer streaming Netflix. Total time with video was 7 hours 40 mins. Acer was just under 7 hours.

try them both out and return the one you dont like. As everyone has said, there's a lot of hardware value in the Gateway. As long as the trackpad works and the BIOS TMP 2.0 is there in the BIOS, I think its a keeper over the Acer bc are they made in the same place. They both have SSDs...HDDS are usually one of the bigger issues with laptop longevity.

At this point, I am going to be checking on 2 things:
(1) No one has said anything about fans dying prematurely so im going to be checking for reviews on that for both
(2) I want to also check on heat; heat can cause a lot of glitches and issues. ill check on that myself but im curious if anyone has seen any issues with that

I never find these deals at any of the local Walmarts near my location. Guess that's what I get for living in a small town.

The funniest part about this FP "wild goose chase" is no Brickseek links on the OP lmao
Many people cry about brickseek being wrong so they made an extra click to view OP and links.

I always thought it was the opposite. Maybe its just the location in general. I live in NE Ohio. I honestly believe that we have one of the largest SDer/flipper populations in the whole country. Clearance deals are mostly gone same day, sometimes next day. And they load up. I feel like you have less of that in smaller towns.

The most funniest part. The links are there. If you view in a computer. On a mobile device they won't be

some people are saying that the panels vary - many of the components seem to vary from machine to machine. I bought a blue and a black one. I am going to open both to compare and return the one I like the least. I hope one screen is better than the other....and it doesnt have any issues like TPM 2.0. I have a few monitors so worse case scenario, ill just hook up the gateway to a big monitor. I work from home. I dont really travel or move my laptop much. For people who just need a solid CPU+RAM in a machine and have a great backlit keyboard and monitor, the Gateway is a great machine to have docked most of the time. People come to these threads and dont understand the use cases.

Can anyone confirm if the Acer can charge with USB C? I have a USB dock I'd love to use with this.
Yes, the Acer 317 charging port is a USB C port

hard to say haha I used to visit the Bay area on business trips and would do a little clearance shopping. My impression is that NE Ohio is worse than the Bay area but I could be wrong.
