Thanks for posting, I've been waiting for these to come back in stock!
Because Brother home printers are workhorses. All the Brother printers I've ever owned have been super reliable and work for years and years. All the other brand printers I've owned (e.g., Lexmark, Canon) crapped out, were intermittently unreliable, or needed frequent attention.

It's old, but came with 100% life toner (11k pages) and a full catridge (like 3k pages). There were a couple of similar units available as well (some were even better), but only this one came with full toner and catridge, so that I don't have to spend any extra money to get it start printing.
I would say if you really want ultra saving, you can try these thrift stores or local delas as well.

Agreed. Have purchased and recommended Brothers almost exclusively since being burnt by HP one too many times 15 years or so ago. They just work. Had one inkjet that did have trouble powering up when it plugged in each time, said it was an indication it would soon fail, but it kept working fine for another 7 years and I ended up selling it for a good price. Got a $200 Xerox laser that I bought at a good price, bought a $100 toner for it I hadn't even used yet, the thing completely died a year and couple weeks after purchase- just outside warranty. Xerox said- "too bad."
They don't have sketchy firmware like what HP is notorious for that forces you to buy new ink toners regardless of whether or not you already used up your current toner cartridge. Whatever you do stay far away from HP.
A thrift store, but for-profit. They have stores in most states.
Not sure about the price in other places. I live in NM. Here all monochrome printers (including AIO's) are all labeled for $10, which is cheaper than many color inkjet junk (they sell these for $15...).
they work

I concur as well. Sticking with brothers only for past 8 years. Before that, had to throw away HPs and lexmark (or whatever they were called) every year.
lots of returned display units. lots of people to dumb to follow even the most basic setup instructions. An the invetable infant mortality.
toner does not expire..ink maybe does but toner does not.
