Brother makes great Laser Printers. I standardized on them at work years ago. For a home laser printer at this price would be hard to beat. Even takes a High Yield toner.

Yup, the D at the end of the model number means Duplex printing.
The W at the end means wireless capability. You can setup cloud printing as well.

Works with my mac Mini M1 and MBA M1 just fine and have had no problems with large print jobs. The largest to date was a 224 page PDF printed in duplex mode.

I do have a problem with the printer coming out of deep sleep mode and tripping the 15amp breaker for my room. It can do this even when everything else is off in my room. I tried the printer in other rooms and same issue. I see firmware fixes for excessive current draw for other models, but none for this printer as yet.

My workaround is to turn off the printer when it is not in use and then printing right away after I turn on the printer. I'll raise a support ticket but if anyone has any thoughts on how to address I'm all ears.
The problem is most likely your house wiring circuit load is near the 15 amp capacity already and when the printer comes online it pushes it over the limit. Perhaps all your bedrooms are on the same overloaded circuit which is common in house wiring. I suggest you do an amp check on the circuit breaker that feeds this printer. It's probably already drawing near 15 amps before the printer turns on. I'm an electrician by the way. I've had this printer for over 10 years and never once blew the breaker.

What's the difference between this one and HL-L2350DW that Wirecutter recommends?

I have the wired model and same issue. I have the printer on an old UPS power supply. It will trip when printer comes out from deep sleep. The UPS just beeps and no real surge.
If you put this printer on a circuit that is already loaded up near 15 amps it's going to blow the breaker when it starts up. I suggest it's not the printer but inadequate circuit capacity is the reason it trips the breaker. I never blew a breaker once in 10 years of printer use.

Not talking about the breaker, just the surge. There is nothing on that circuit and the printer still trips the UPS each time it turns on.

Brother only uses ONE model of toner in ALL their printers! No forced obsolescence! It's freaking awesome!

You generally can't plug printers into UPSs.

Laser printers very briefly consume about 1000W when first warming up. Most UPSs can't handle that.
