I have like 5 of these, swear they used to be like $50-$60 years ago.
Yes they did (now older models) and its when I purchased mine (from a Staples deal, I think) for $50 and its still going strong. I just purchase the generic toner (TN-450) from Amazon. Fantastic printer!

I used to use the NokoPrint Android app to print as the official Brother app didn't work on my previous phone, but now the official Brother iPrint app works on my current phone.

The problem is most likely your house wiring circuit load is near the 15 amp capacity already and when the printer comes online it pushes it over the limit. Perhaps all your bedrooms are on the same overloaded circuit which is common in house wiring. I suggest you do an amp check on the circuit breaker that feeds this printer. It's probably already drawing near 15 amps before the printer turns on. I'm an electrician by the way. I've had this printer for over 10 years and never once blew the breaker.
The rooms all have their own individual circuit breakers, so I would hope that they each have their own circuit. The breakers that trip are different ones for each of the rooms that I have tried. The house is 10 years old and everything appears to be accurately labelled in two large panels - one upstairs and one downstairs. Whenever I have put the printer into a room other than my home office there is nothing else in use, or even plugged in, in those rooms.

The fact that the 20A fuse in the laundry doesn't trip seems to indicate that the printer is drawing > 15A so my first thought was to get a Kill A Watt device to check the draw of the printer and if that looks OK then maybe it is time to call in a certified electrician.

If you have a raspberry pi computer, you can setup a printing server to manage your print jobs.

A good tutorial can be found here https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-...nt-server/

Brother printers require some special drivers on a linux operating system. While they might be in some versions of linux, they might be out to date.

You can find latest drivers for linux from this site. https://github.com/pdewacht/brlaser

Note: You will need to compile the drivers from source.

Hope that helps.

love my very old model of this working for i think over 10 years now
I came here to say the exact same thing. Still using my HL-2040 or was it 2140 for the few times each year when I need to print something. I think it's on its second toner. original drum. In over 10 years, I've printed probably something like 500 sheets.

Brother makes great printers without all the DRM crap. I've owned this one's cousin HL-2140 (non-wireless) for more than 10 years now and it's just been rock solid. No issues with after market ink either. It has survived a couple of moves and I've had it hooked up to several versions of Windows, Mac and Ubuntu over the years without any issues. I'm considering giving it to my college sophomore to take back to the dorm in the fall since she needs one to print b/w lab sheets because she doesn't have a campus printer in her building. She has asked for a fancy HP printer (which contains all that beautiful DRM and costs a pretty penny just for b/w ink) but I'm vigorously against it because, if anybody who has some knowledge about computers has experienced before, resolving printer issues over the phone/remotely is another level of pain that nobody should ever have to live through.

FWIW, this model gets posted every couple of months when it goes on sale for $80 or $90 so this is definitely not the lowest price. That being said if you need it right now then buy otherwise I would wait.
Which aftermarket ink do you use?

STRONGLY recommend this even if you have a normal ink jet

What I love about these is their response time is so much faster, the lack of ink drying over time.. just the overall scams built into ink jets arent found with laser printers hints the price difference.

I think the ability to print photos and such is nice but even then, if you do it rarely or you do it in bulk, there are other methods.. for me, I usually just print return labels or very very rarely (every few years) a document.

This being old technology still has relevance and is better imo and if you arent aware of how scams are built into ink jets, simply youtube or google it.. there's thousands of articles on it and its not just one brand but an industry standard The only way out of it is if you get refillable ink cartridge printers which are really expensive upfront.
