Decent deal, but covers the fan holes which is a no go from my perspective if you plan on using the SteamDeck while in the dock. Not sure why they didn't fix this in the revision/update.

Nice looking dock, too bad that ethernet comes out of the side like that though. I feel like they could've eliminated one USB port and moved the ethernet port back there. I hate it when you have a clean set up and then have some random cable sticking out of the side. I see that a lot in docks.

Those are intake. As long as the top is free and clear you'll have zero issues. Think about holding the Deck; some people have the intake blocked more than you would think.
???

This is not how cooling systems work. Intake is critical for cooling to work properly.

With that said, I think probably enough of the intake is free on this that it isn't a huge problem. But let's not go telling people that intake doesn't matter.

Good timing. I just got the steam deck email few days ago. The only dislike is that their delivery is quite slow. 5 to 12 days. Ordered one!

Yes, since it has USB-C input.

Could the USB C port be used as an output for a monitor?

The images on the product page show the dock blocking maybe 15-20% of the intake on the lower right corner of it. Am I looking at the wrong link?

Like I said I think enough is exposed that it's probably not a huge deal. My main thing was to reply to people saying that intake is not important for cooling, which is incorrect.

Agreed, if there is a restriction in the intake, there will be less air moving through to remove heat through the exhaust. Dirty air filter in your car is a perfect example; while not blocking flow, you are restricting movement therefore less volume through your radiator = less functional system cooling capacity resulting in higher temps.

It appears to be covering roughly 40% of 4 (perhaps some of the 5th) of the air inlets, even if the the dock is not flush against the ports / holes, there still will be a reduction of air flow. Gases still behave as a fluid, changes in direction, bottle necks, etc all impact flow.

Now, the Steam Deck is supposed to throttle itself based on heat so this might not be a big deal in terms of damage, maybe only performance. Also you will not have two massive, near 100 degree hands wrapped around a large portion of the device, the device resting on a lap (blocking intakes and taking in body heat), etc.

Who knows, but I do think the question is worth asking and JSAUX could have tapered that part down not to block the vents. But perhaps they tested both designs and found no measurable effect.
