For anyone that uses this camera, how good (or not good) are the photos or video actually taken under water? And, regarding quality, is it better to use a underwater housing or not?

Direct from GoPro is a better deal. I paid $370 for the camera, 1 year of unlimited uploads/ 1 yr no ? asked warranty ( go pro sub), 32gb sd card, and an additional Enduro battery. Not sure if there is any difference between an Enduro vs regulator batt.

Also got 5% back paying with PayPal.

Except GoPros usually release in October, literally 2 months remaining of their yearly cycle. Not to mention, once the new generation release, the old generation gets a fat price cut.

GoPro 11 will be announced soon, but per their usual pricing model, it will remain $200 more expensive than this price until at least December 2022. So this pricing and opportunity is still viable for people who want to jump in now. Resale value of GoPro is also not bad.

They didn't do that last year. Instead of the Hero 9 getting a price cut, they raised the base price of the 10 by $100 USD. But super sales, like the one shown here happen often anyway.

ADDED: Actually, they did the same thing with the 9 too. $50 difference back then between the 8 and 9.

I just returned it after using the camera three times, all for snorkeling. The video quality was amazing, however small issues were here and three. The device was over heat and got shut down automatically on the beach when watching videos just captured. The app on Android sucked, it got stuck all the time during the exporting after editing. The desktop app is end of life, and the mobile app, Quik, is the only option, which means you may have to edit the videos on devices or use 3rd party editing tools for post processing. Besides the export issue, Quik takes lots of space on the device after syncing videos with the camera, however you cannot access these synced video images until you export them from Quik to the file system of the phone. For example, if there are 32G images in the camera, after syncing it to Quik, it takes 32G space on the phone, to access them from filesystem you need to export them which takes another 32G space , so total 64G. If the camera is just what you need and don't care about the overheating then it's for you. I just didn't like it and returned.
