I tried plugging the charger cable into an outlet with a power brick and it would not charge. Once I plugged it into the ps5 it started working. The only downside is the PS5 has to be in rest mode for it to work and I don't always want my PS5 to be using energy.

I bought this and just power it using an old Samsung power brick, it charges well and quickly and I've never had issues with the controllers or charging. Been using about 6 months at this point. It went on sale for $1 when I got it so I took the gamble but it actually works great lol. Hope this helps anyone on the fence.

edit: apologies this was the one I bought for $2.50. same methodology and it works great. unfortunately no longer available.
