PowerColor has been in the game for a long time. I wish I knew more regarding card brands because I'm in the market. I get the impression brands like PowerColor, Sapphire, PNY, Zotac, and ASRock make the cheapest cards but I'm not sure if the quality (or quality control) is lower.

Anecdotally, people generally seem to regard EVGA and maybe Gigabyte as "slightly better" brands, and MSI and Asus in-the-middle. EVGA especially seems to have the best reputation for fulfilling warranty claims, but again that is just anecdotal.

Maybe somebody can answer, is there even a remotely general consensus on "tiers" of graphics card makers?

Sapphire and Powercolor are probably 2 of the oldest add in board partners for AMD and go all the way back to the days of ATi before AMD bought them. In the Radeon world, Sapphire is pretty much tier 1 with the bulk of the GPU allocated to them. you will also typically see sapphire cards at some of the lowest price for Radeons. ASRock is the exception lately but they're relatively new when it comes to graphics card when compared to the rest of the brands.

I just saw that Diamond has a GPU out again, the 6600 XT. I thought they went out of business.

Haven't heard of that name in a long time. Can't seem to find much corporate history in the middle, but reviews tout that card as looking like a Powercolor and sure enough, that's who owns them right now. I'd say a shell of what they were at the least.

Good. Now drop the price to $199.99 where I bought my 5500XT 2 years ago and I'll be impressed.

Don't skimp out, just get ASUS Tuf or EVGA higher tier... Watch some videos on the different capacitors and quality. I forget the exact number, but the ASUS Tuf 3080 had like 8 or 10 of the good quality resistors/capacitors, and zotac had 1 or 2, with just blank spots where they should be.
It's a huge difference in quality and peace of mind.
Great advice!
Now where's that 3080 TUF model for $300?
Top models don't always equate to top tier components. Graphics cards are far more complicated than any other piece in a system build. And using blanket statements like that is just financially stupid.

Fwiw, after my second failed Asus card in a row (currently on integrated), brand name shouldn't always be the top tick box on a list. Every one of them can make good and bad products.

Well your 5500XT is 2x slower so don't expect that drop any time soon

Lower and lower price coming to a dealer near you Smilie

Hold on for a while and teach these greedy guys a lesson. Nvidia stock plunges by more than 10% in one day.

In its latest 10-Q, Nvidia acknowledged these risks: "Changes to cryptocurrency standards and processes including, but not limited to, the pending Ethereum 2.0 standard may decrease the usage of GPUs for Ethereum mining as well as create increased aftermarket resales of our GPUs, impact retail prices for our GPUs, increase returns of our products in the distribution channel, and may reduce demand for our new GPUs."

Yes, this is AMD GPU but there will be secondary and ternary effect!

LMAO

I've been saying this for months, and despite everything rapidly coming true, people still respond hating on me and trying to convince themselves the titanic they paid first class tickets to ride on, isn't sinking.

I wonder if they'll listen now that it's coming from Nvidia. If even Nvidia is admitting all of this, it may well cause prices to fall even further than I thought.

I'm guessing this is a better deal than the 6600 at 270?
