Having used this Ozark Trail canopy and this one from Academy side by side I would grab the Academy for $15 more after $20 off $100 promotion. The main upgrade is the mechanism to extend and lower the legs. The one on the Academy is a big button that's easier to press instead of the little pill shaped button on the Ozark that can pinch fingers. Both come with crappy storage bags. Everything else is pretty much the same including the vent at the top that seems to help in the heat. The mechanism in the center of the canopy to raise and lower it may be a little better on the academy too. You can see it in one of the Ozark trail pictures.

Academy has a promotion right now for $20 off $100 or $10 off $50 through 8/10/22. Should see the promotion on the Academy home page. Need a filler to get to $100.

Otherwise, the Ozark is a good canopy , especially for $65.
Was about to pull the trigger on the Academy canopy but shipping kills the $20 savings. So make sure you can do store pickup to make it worthwhile.

I work at a beach park and these do not hold up on breezy days. When any part bends they are permanently useless so lazy visitors just abandon them on the beach. My record is 3 in one day, but usually we have one or two per weekend.
We started using a portable bandsaw to cut them up so we can get them in the dumpster easier.

Ozark Trail 10' x 10' Red Instant Outdoor Canopy with Heavy Duty Construction
$44.97 w/free shipping

Slanted legs as opposed to straight. It seems there are more accessories available for straight leg canopies, but can't swear to it.

When i was researching, Slant leg canopies are weaker and less durable. Bigger footprint, for the shade provided. Can't butt up against another canopy, or a wall because legs extend out past canopy.

What ones are still any good? Better to put the money towards an EZ Up or Eurmax?

i sometimes see people use these with two legs lowered to create an angle w/ better shade. is that doable with this or is that something one should do without causing much dmg?

I've been using this exact canopy for tailgating for 2 seasons now at Penn state games and it's held up quite well. The bag still has no rips or tears in it after about 15 total uses.

I would get the Costco Coleman pop up canopy that goes on sale for like $120. Much better warranty.

I set this up to provide shade while gardening. There was plenty of space to work under the canopy. Make sure to place it exactly where you want it because it's quite difficult to move when fully extended. I can see how it would parts would bend/break if enough pressure was exerted.

How hard are these for s single person to put up? I have an older one of these and it's a super PITA. I have to walk around the outside trying to extend the legs one at a time and it can be frustrating to say the least.

Piece of cake, I can do it by myself in about a minute. The handle in the middle makes it super easy.

I bought this on the last go around when it was just white to replace a ~18 year old ez up and I had very low expectations. I have been pleasantly surprised with how easy it is to open and close by myself. the build quality isn't as good as the ez up from 20 years ago but it's better than a lot of the cheap tents I see these days. for $65 it's a good buy.

FWIW - I bought 2 of these back in 2017 for $59/ea and they were great, very sturdy. My sister just bought 2 of these from the same deal last month and this past weekend we put it up. Quality isn't what it used to be 5 years ago. New canopy is much flimsier and the metal appears slightly thinner. Even the actual cloth/polyester cover is a thinner, cheaper material. Overall packaged height is about 1" shorter on the new tents as well. For occasional use during parties in the backyard, it'll be fine. If it's windy, Better make sure it's tied down.

Do you have to take the canopy off the frame every time you want to take it down? That's what it's showing in the instructions

it's doable as all four legs have 4 independent height adjustment notches. However, I wouldn't angle it too much as the legs in these are quite flimsy and the added stress from the tilting of the tent will cause your legs to bend over time. Then you wouldn't be able to retract them after that.

It's pretty annoying to do alone. I had people come help me at the beach when they saw me struggling. I'm 5'4" and struggled getting the top to lock in place
