I wouldn't say completely pointless, the 74 oz might be the best bowl ever to eat a monsterous bowl of chili, pho, other various soup or cold ceral out of if you didn't care you were eating out of a dog bowl. lol

The bowl looks like good quality. However I don't understand how insulating a open bowl on a pet dish that will stay out potentially days makes a difference. The water is going to be room temp in about 10 minutes. My dog was averse to chilled water and preferred room temp. Still a good deal, especially for the 74oz.

A metal bowl for this price is a no-brainer but the insulation is incredibly pointless. Don't buy this thinking it's going to do anything to keep food/water a certain temperature.

Why is that? Are you afraid China poisoned these with melamine or something?
It's always a good idea to wash stuff that touches food or water before the first use, especially metal. They can pick up oil/dust/residue from the factory, plastic wrappers, never know who touched it, etc.

A lot of people say you should wash clothes/sheets the first time for the same reason but... I like wearing stuff fresh from the factory!

Are these suitable for cats?
….only the cat will decide that.

I wonder if the insulated bowl would make a significant impact when leaving the bowl outside when it's below freezing.

Is the bottom textured or anything to prevent the bowl from sliding around while the dog is eating?

The bowl won't sweat and leave condensation on your floor.

I was thinking same thing, using the 74oz to serve hot steamed vegetables or hot rice, would anyone at the table know these were originally dog bowls?

Freezing water first occurs outside when the surface is exposed to the black box of space. Keep it under a cover (roof) to reduce chance of freezing.
Also cold convection from moving air that is below freezing can impact so sides to your cover can reduce airflow.
