I had this problem last time. Took awhile for CDKeys to investigate it and once they seen I hadn't used the code, I received a refund. Just have patience with them. They should make it right.
me too, they quickly resolved over email

I too was hoping I could just redeem this and be an Extra tier member for 6 months. Here's my experience and theory:

Non plus member, redeeming the code: the only option was to have it give you essential membership for 1 year. Can upgrade to Extra for $40 /rest of the year or Premium for $60/rest of the year. Total cost for Extra: $80/first year or Premium : $100/first year

Maybe someone can pay for 1 month of Extra first at $15 or Premium at $20. Then redeem the key and get 6 months extended. Total cost for Extra: $55/first 6 months or Premium: $60/first 6 months.

Does anyone know the cost difference for 2-3 years upgrading?
The second thing you said is what works.

So a person who has NO subscription at all, who wants to use one of these cards to jump into the Extra (2nd) tier, should
1) subscribe MONTH TO MONTH (don't pay for a whole year, just sign up to be billed monthly) at the Extra tier.
2) once you are billed for 1 month of Extra, you should then be able to redeem the card from OP for the equivalent months of Extra that cost the same as 1 year of Essentials by putting in the code. So Essentials costs $60/yr, so that is the value of the card. Extra costs $100/yr. So you should get 6/10 of a year from this card for Extra approx.
3) You can then safely cancel your month to month plan if you want to as well, if you don't want it to auto-renew at the end.

A person who is currently an Essentials member already will have to:
1) upgrade their account to Extra. You do this by paying the prorated amount to turn your remaining months of Essentials into Extra, whatever that amount is
2) once that payment goes through and you now have an Extra account, you should then be able to redeem the card from OP for the equivalent months of Extra that cost the same as 1 year of Essentials by putting in the code. these new months will "tack on" at the end of whatever remaining months you just paid to upgrade.

Note for the 2nd one, people are often instead doing the other standard trick of buying years and years and years of Essential before upgrading to Extra, as there is a max charge PS will charge you to upgrade no matter how many years you have stacked. I don't like that "trick" as much because I'm not sure I want to be locked into a PS+ account, or a PS+ Extra account, for 5+ years of my life. Maybe I'll have an XBOX or some kind of Monster Nintendo in 4 years, who the F knows?

So did I do it wrong? I bought two years worth (first time subscribing), but haven't upgraded to extra yet, which will be near 80 dollars to do. Anyways to get extra cheaper before I choose to upgrade it to extra?

Just bought a few. Worked well. Used the PS App, like someone suggested, on Android, and it worked like a charm.

I cannot buy from them somehow.
I get email with:

  • We are unable to confirm your payment
  • The code you are purchasing is region-restricted

Is CDKeys located outside the US? Also, anyone think PS Plus will be cheaper during the holidays like it has in the past few years? I remember buying a few codes from Amazon for $28 around 2-3 years ago.

Ordered one from them recently and it was an invalid key.

Currently fighting Sony and Cdkeys to either get it added, replaced or refunded. Trying to avoid a chargeback at this time because I don't want to be banned from buying from them in the future.

Frustrating though and wasn't worth the cost savings.
Same for me. I'm disputing it with PayPal but per CDKeys "aCcOrDiNg tO ThEiR sYsTeM" the code was not activated when sent to me, so I'm not liking my chances of getting my money back. They stopped responding to my emails until I got PayPal involved.

I'm afraid if you redeemed it, the only way for you to get extra is to pay the $80 to convert your full 2 year membership from plus to Extra. My theory on how to get only a 6 month Extra/Premium subscription as confirmed by @urbach is to: pay for one month of Extra first, then redeem the codes to extend the period from one month to 6/12 months.

Don't beat yourself up though, just think of it as: at least you saved $20-40 off buying it straight from Sony. And personally, the game library isn't big enough yet to invest in a 5-10 years prepaid membership, so 1-2 years membership is reasonable.

CD Keys seems to be handing out a lot of invalid keys lately. I've seen complaints in every thread when there is a sale and they aren't reliably addressing the issue with everyone.

I can't even purchase it from them…tried Apple Pay, PayPal, and direct payment. All showed pending charges and my bank saying it's ok, but then they email me shortly afterwards saying they regret that they could not process my order….
