Nah, its actually not a buzzword like the others. Micelles are natural structures formed by lipids that are essential in the removal of hydrophobic (greasy/oily) substances. Some people use coconut oil or other oils to remove makeup, since oils readily form micelles to surround makeup particles for easily removal. Micellar water is a great alternative for acne prone individuals since it works the same, forming micelles, without slathering yourself with another oil or harsh/drying soaps.

Source: wife is an acne-prone chemical engineer that has done R&D in surfactants and micellular products. She loves this stuff.
