NO! What you need for sheet metal is probably a MIG or even TIG machine. Stick is for heavier metals, will burn through sheet metal faster than you can say SH*T. But this certainly looks like a great price for a small starter machine. Seems to have decent reviews.

whats a good source for a super cheap visor thing? HF?

Seems like best results are had on 220 i.e. no breaker tripping and ensuing frustration.

Correction: You always want a TIG welder when dealing with automotive anything.

It's not long before your "auto body welder" friend decides he can do your exhaust with a MIG.

mig works fine on body panel.

I'm no welder, but looked into which welder would work for me extensively. The quick answer is no, stick welders won't do well for auto body work. Stick welders are for quick and dirty jobs with thicker metal, in conditions outside (wind) and even underwater. You can get away with stick welding on a surface with little prep even with a little rust on it. Stick welding are most commonly used on structural steel jobs. Thin sheet metal like on cars are better served by mig welding, or if you want really pretty, tig welding. But heck, $65, try it anyway, you'll gain all kinds of experience by playing around with some scrap metal and a stick welder. If you can gain enough skill to not burn through sheet metal using a stick welder you'll be amazing when you use tig.

Looks at all my exhausts done with a MIG. Flux core at that too.

It'll work with small rods but I'd recommend you get a cheap gas welder, even a 120v model with gas and .025 wire would work well.

I wouldn't recommend tig unless you're doing exhaust or a roll cage and even then most use mig.
