The $399.99 is non sense, I bought this desk for $100 and think it's pretty solid. Frame is tough enough to take some chair hits with no disruption and the size is just right for a small workspace + dual monitor. While I use it on a tile floor, I think the weight(It's heavy for its size) would be enough to work on medium thickness carpet without it feeling off balance. If you are in need of a smaller desk, I think $75 is very solid.
