I am a mid to heavy user. Not a gamer. My main machine is a desktop.
I needed something portable to take with me on the road. Hotels, cruise ships, McDonald's, etc. Don't laugh now but I was using an old Dell Vostros with 4GB RAM and an i3 processor running Win7. Of course, it weighs a TON! Bottom line is this laptop run circles around it despite the Dell's i3 processor. Also, the battery lasts FOREVER on this thing!
My use is light when I'm on the road. Surfing, editing and checking e-mails, word processing and spreadsheets, videos, viewing pics, online purchases, Zoom, no gaming. I'm not going to use a $100 laptop for Photoshopping or video editing and then bitch that it sucks because it's too slow. Use the right tool for the job.
When I first got it, I took it out of S mode and updated Win11 and all other available drivers. Then I added my wireless printer, BT mouse and mapped a drive to my NAS. All the updates and installs were much faster than I expected. Quite speedy in fact. The updates were done at night (east coast) so maybe the MS servers are less taxed during the evening. I did notice the machine was smoother and more responsive after all updates. My WiFi is very fast at home so maybe that made the updates feel faster. Everything adds up to the user experience.
I did NOT install Chrome but rather used Edge. Opening 10 tabs was not a problem, with one of the tabs used for YouTube.
Maybe eventually I'll add a second SSD but for the immediate future I plan on getting a low-profile mini-USB flash drive. 128GB should do the trick for my usage and only around $15. Stick it in a USB 3.0 port and forget about it.
Random data points and answers to some of the posted questions:
It's a TN screen but it's pretty decent in my opinion. Not a touch screen. I have no complaints. Yeah, sure IPS would be better but remember the price.
Lightweight. I think spec says 2.64 lbs.
Battery lasts FOREVER. (I wonder if an IPS panel would draw more power.)
There is no fan. Don't hear one. Don't feel air movement. Spec says no fan.
If you register within 60 days Asus will throw in a 1-year accident coverage against drops, spills and surges. That's a pretty decent freebie!
Warranty is 1 year but if you "share your experience with them" (whatever that means) they will extend your warranty for 90 days.
Screen can go 180 degrees lie flat for group viewing.
Quite decent keyboard but it is NOT backlit.
You can turn the touch pad into a number pad with a push of a "button". Works quite well.
Proprietary charger. No USB-C as others have said.
First charge from 20% took 1 hour 20 minutes to 100%.
If it gets destroyed, lost, stolen it's a $100 laptop.
Remember, it's a ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR laptop. Don't be running computation fluid dynamics or finite element analyses with it.

That said, it's a pretty weak computer too (you'll get a similar but only very slightly better level of performance with it vs this one).
