Most people just use this as outlet splitter anyway. If you are really concerned, the new National Electric Code requires whole house surge protectors for new builds so the prices are now dirt cheap. You can buy an 80,000 amp surge protector for $125 and just screw it onto a double pole breaker or directly onto the bus.

I understand what you're trying to imply, but that is such a poor analogy:

1. You're comparing an electronic device that can range from like $5 to $5,000 to the value of a life.

2. You have to pay more for extra joules of protection with a surge protector, but the seat belt in your car comes free of charge, AND you can't upgrade your seatbelt.

This deal has been going on Woot for over a month now. Still, it's a great price. FYI, it's better if you see this as a simple power plug splitter than a sourge protector. The protection it offers is close to none.

Is it really OK to plug a lot of stuff into these? If it has six slots, I guess it must be OK to put six items in them? I don't think they're good for using constantly as a switch, To power on and off devices like Coffee makers…?

Straight plugs are annoying. got similar at Home Depot go ~$10 with flat plugs. So much easier to plug them behind furniture.

It all depends on what you're plugging in. For most electronics it would be ok to plug 6 or even more apliances.

Thanks and repped. I use things like this for small stuff here and there. I roll the dice. But for really expensive stuff are you really going to trust a $3.50 power strip? 🤔

Although I completely agree with you, I'm afraid it's all about marketing. A power strip with "sourge protection" will apeal more to your overall consumer Vs. Just a power strip. And you will never know if its of better quality unless you open in to see the strip's insides.

Not for appliances that best plug directly into wall,to more safely draw higher amps . I.e toasters', coffeemakers' heating elements. I won't use w. medical equipment either.

Another major difference: You are also supposed to replace cheap surge protectors every 2-5 years. I'm guessing that not many people do that. I would guess that most people are using fairly worn out surge protectors. They don't typically recommend a replacement schedule for seat belts.
