Personally, I love Apple's designs but they have some lame choices with keyboards and mice (like the way you can't use the Magic Mouse while it charges…).

I returned this after hating the lack of backlight at night, and got the similar Logitech MX Keys. Same price and sale pricing, but with more features. I can't live without backlit keys.

Yes, I do it all day. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206995
I also unlock my Mac with my Apple Watch. Since this it the case for us, is there any advantage to touch ID on a keyboard since we can use the watch?

That's cool man. Be careful with that though, that definitely is a security risk when using your laptop in a public place. Touch ID is safer.
my experience: you'd have to be really close to the machine. it often fails when i'm sitting in front of the computer because it thinks it's too far.

it also taps your wrist everytime it unlocks your computer.

faster and more reliable. i unlock 1Password and pay for stuff using Apple Pay faster by scanning my finger.

watch sometimes fails to detect i'm in front of the computer and asks me to type in my password. and sometimes apple pay takes forever to communicate between apple watch and my mac.

not an issue. plug it in for 2 minutes and you'll have a full charge. not any worse than swapping batteries. it's better in the sense you can just grab a coffee while it charges for 2 minutes.

plugging it in via lightning using the original iPhone cable is cumbersome. cord is too short and the material doesn't slide easily on the table. you're better off doing the quick charge method.

and that's if you forget to charge.

This is a silly excuse… it's "better" I have to stop using the mouse if the battery dies? There's no chance Apple will ever design a mouse this way again when they finally reimagine it. It's one of their most universally criticized choices. To the point that it has a section on the Wikipedia page of the mouse.

you're stopping to swap batteries on the version 1 of the mouse when you're out of juice anyways. version 2 isn't any worse than version 1.

when you use the official iPhone lightning cable to charge your mouse while using it, you're going to fray the cable faster which means you'll be buying another lightning cable every year or so. cable was designed for stationary charging.

how is that any better than just swapping batteries? the whole point of building a version 2 of the mouse is to make it better than version 1, not worse. this is a fact. you cannot disprove it. version 2 is better than version 1 in virtually every single way.

people criticize the mouse without thinking about how the experience will be when they do the alternative method. you think Apple didn't build a prototype mouse with a front charging port? they obviously did and decided it was a stupid idea.

think about it. apple built a magic trackpad with a front charging port. they also built a magic keyboard with a front charging port. to think that they didn't even consider a front charging port on a mouse would be false.

you mean the braided cable? unnecessary. you can use any lightning cable.

This is the prior generation Magic Keyboard 2.

The Magic Keyboard was updated alongside the iMac in 2021 with a slight redesign (rounded corners, alternate keys see F1-12 row) and includes a braided USB-C to Lightning cable instead of to the older standard USB-A to Lightning. Alongside this the Magic Trackpad, and Magic Mouse received similar slight redesigns and a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID was launched.
Neither woot nor amazon are touch id versions. Pass
