These are very tough to find a deal on, especially through Festool.
If I didn't already have one, I'd have purchased it.

Thumbs up for Festool deals. If I didn't have one already I would have jumped on this.

I'm just not a fan of the Domino system. And I can't seem to justify the price of their Domino machine. I do a lot of M&T's so for me, the Domino style connection just seems too simple for justifying the price. I mean, you could get a machined Pantorouter for a bit more $ and expand the functionality 100x (Although I made mine for around $500 back in 2018... but I went big.)

Plus, for what it is, even at $800, it's still overpriced. And from my friends and colleagues that have them, theres still a bunch of bugs that FT needs to work out on them.

It's a strange "Hype tool" to me. I can see it being a good tool if doing production level, but it's not a production level tool. I guess if you are gluing a slab on-site it's could have use... but that would be something I'd rather prefab, and then assemble on-site.

I'm going to have to disagree with @IncompletePerfect on this. Certainly there are thousands of Festool fans who would also disagree, but I'm just speaking about my own use of this tool. A domino joiner is nothing like a pantorouter in a similar way that a circular saw is nothing like a table saw. They have different purposes; a handheld tool can be brought to the workpieces in ways that are much quicker to setup and sometimes impossible to do on a table-based tool. You can't make louvred wood blinds (a la Matthias Wandel) using a Domino, but that's not really what it's for. More to the point: floating tenons -- even if not fabricated with a domino joiner -- are speedier to make than integral tenons because preparing the stock for butt joints/floating tenons is much faster; involves a lot less measuring; and doesn't waste wood at each joint.

I purchased this exact Q set in January for $1060 and it has been a superb tool. I use it all the time for light to medium strength (I would say "fine woodworking") projects: hundreds of 3/4" plywood butt joints for wainscoting walls, a garden gate door, reinforcement for wood archways, a kids picnic bench. It's absolutely worth the money to me. I suggest anyone buying it to also buy the systainer of dominos which comes with 5 different size cutters (item 498899). The largest cutter has been the most used for me recently (a few notches larger than what comes with the joiner itself), though I don't think I would step up to the Domino XL if I was to repurchase.

For deal searchers, this is the lowest I've ever seen this tool; it rarely goes on sale.

More often than not he spouts nonsense...no different here. The only similarity between the panto and the domino is they both spin bits. That's it. The Domino is an incredible tool, so is a pantorouter; two totally different tools.

Regarding this deal specifically, it appears to lack a Systainer and a few more accessories but could be a great way to get a Domino on a rare discount.

Even if it does expire in 2024, clones are years off.

"Not for production" -> This is not true. Regardless, the audience of shoppers who are really doing mass production of wood objects for sale is vanishingly small.

"Bunch of bugs" -> Please elaborate. I don't know of any real bugs or issues with the tool.

"Gluing a slab onsite" -> Admittedly you're saying this is where a domino *would* be useful, but please explain to me how you would put joints in a large slab or any large object using a pantorouter? They only have ~12" of travel in any direction. So you have a gigantic support table and you would realign and re-clamp the workpiece for every mortise you cut?

I've owned one for over 10 years and love it. It's a high quality, useful tool.

For the person that made the comment about the clones, competition is good and it will be great when that happens.

Anything to avoid making a mortise and tenon joint, this being one of the more expensive "solutions". Others being biscuit joiners, Kreg pocket jigs and screws, and dowel jigs, in order of decreasing cost. For discerning pros only!

This is cheap because it's refurbished. I had a terrible experience with festool refurb products in the past, I bought a shop vac that looked like it was right out of the dumpster. Not only did they not replace it, but I had to pay to ship it back for a refund.

Worth noting for people who may not know, biscuits are for alignment and don't provide strength to a joint. Pocket holes, screws, dowels and dominos will.

I doubt it, they probably already have working models ready to go as soon as the patent ends. That would be some sweet sweet money that they are leaving on the table otherwise

Look at how quickly the knipex knockoffs came out the minute the patent expired.

Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know there's no law against developing copies of a patented item as long as you aren't selling them yet

I paid $800 for this plus the complete accessories kit, a systainer full of domino's and cutter bits, a festool mini vac, and extra antistatic hose. Crazy how expensive this stuff gets now. All that is around $2000 now.
