I had no idea either. Lol. Basically a pole saw. Got one of those and love it. What will ryobi come up with next. They're just taking my money left and right.
I'm not sure what the point of this is... The Ryobi pole saw will do the same job and much more and has the same reach. It's also cheaper if you do the tool only option. In general, this is really over-priced in my opinion.
I agree this newly released Ryobi extended pole lopper is over-priced. There are certain applications, though that this pole lopper can execute far better than a pole chainsaw or even a pole handsaw. If a branch is up high and of a small diameter, meaning flimsy, a pole chainsaw or a hand-powered pole saw will perform miserably as the branch flops around as it resists the cuts. This Ryobi pole lopper, however, will have no problem with those branches. Also, if the branch goes straight up, near a verticle position, a pole chainsaw and a hand powered pole saw will be a horrendous choice for the job. Enter the Ryobi!
If a tree's outer branches are near a structure, removing the flimsy branches can prevent potential damage before the larger branches are eventually removed. There are many special applications for Ryobi's extended pole lopper! In time the price will drop.
I am with above, just learned what pole lopper is.
I have the Ryobi pole saw (got it for $60). At times, if there are branches in close proximity, it can be hard to cut the specific branch without damaging the other branches. Pole lopper should perform better in that situation. But pole lopper is limited to 1 1/4 in branch in diameter (according to product description). Pole saw can cut thru much thicker branches.
And, I don't think I want to spend $229 for this convenience. I just have to learn how to use my pole saw more effectively. I think a ladder can help.
Thanks OP, for the new tool introduction. At least l learned something.
