The initial yield rate when mass production started earlier in Fall of last year was 50% and they rapidly improved the yield rate to 85% which is much faster than LG which took them several years for their WOLED tvs. Not to mention the fact that Samsung Display only has one gen 8.5 line producing 30,000 substrates a month compared to LG display with 90k substrates a month. OLED tvs will get cheaper due to economies of scale, so we can see the price of QDOLED go even lower than the price of current WOLED if production capacity is increased.

We will most likely see Samsung Display announce by Q4 of this year or Q1 next year that they'll expand capacity to produce 60,000 substrates per month given that that they sold off their last lcd fab and need to transition to another display technology as soon as possible.

In the long run, if Samsung finishes their research for QNED and irons out all the kinks to enable mass production, we will see an even better display technology. The eventual evolution of qdoled is to replace the oled backlight with leds and it would be a qd-microled/nanoled display which is what QNED is. The equipment for QNED/QDOLED is similar except the expensive deposition machines for OLED are not necessary for QNED so the conversion of qdoled to qned wouldn't be difficult and QNED's launch price should theoretically be cheaper than qdoled. Of course this is likely a couple of years away from now happening the earliest by 2025 or 2026.

They didn't so much nerf the brightness as they improved accuracy. If all you care about is brightness and not picture quality, then buy an LED instead of OLED and set it to Vivid mode.

I can't think of anything less in the spirit of what this forum is all about than this comment.
I'd wager that all of us have the money for most of these things at their retail price, but we are here for the deals. We all know that a dollar saved feels better than a dollar earned. And so with that in mind, your comment makes little sense.

Is this the QDOLED? If so, wow, aggressive pricing.

The Samsung S95B OLED is a bit better than the LG C1 OLED overall. The Samsung can display a wider HDR color gamut, and colors are significantly brighter, but this also looks unnatural with certain content. On the other hand, the LG has better black levels in rooms with a bit of natural light, whereas the Samsung is really best enjoyed in a completely dark room. The LG supports Dolby Vision, and it delivers a slightly more accurate HDR experience.
I'll also add. The MSRP of the C1 65" is $1,699. The S95B is $2,999. Right now you can get the Samsung for the same price/cheaper than the C1. That makes me look a little more favorable towards it since the reviews are so close between the two already.

I just placed an order using the Healthcare worker/First responder discount instead of the employer discount and got the $1650 pricing. Has anyone tried to cancel the order to see if they give you an additional 5% off? I remember them doing that in the past.

So you were able to get a price adjustment. I bought it at the 1725 price and Samsung Customer support would not do a price adjustment, rather they suggested I had to reject the first shipment when it arrives and reorder, which I did.
I'm in the exact same boat as Daniel19. When I bought it for $1849.99, the CS rep on chat refused to price match and asked me to refuse delivery and place a new order for the $1724.99 price. So I went ahead place the new order and I was intending to refuse my $1849.99 order. Now I see that the price dropped once again to $1649.99 today. Confused

So of course I contact CS again. This time, the CS rep on chat gave me instructions on how to reach the phone CS who could help me out. I didn't get an immediate price adjustment by the phone rep on my $1724.99 order but they raised a ticket, and asked me to call back with the ticket # once I receive this order and can confirm the TV is in good shape. I asked what if the price is different then but the rep said not to worry, they'll honor this price as she put our conversation in the notes.

The direct CS phone number I received is 1-800-726-7864 if anyone else is in the same boat and wants to try their luck.

Instructions for having chat contact you:
  1. Go to the following link for Order support: https://www.samsung.com/us/suppor...-services/
  2. In the "Contact reason" dropdown, select a reason related to account such as "Problem with order >> Payment not processing".
  3. Fill in your information and opt for "Call" option.
  4. It would ask you for the phone number . Please enter it and click on "Call me now".

Let me know if this is a cynical enough comment - why don't you call, and, whoever, is assigned to service your call, ask them what is in the notes for you :-) Wouldn't you like to confirm that the information in the notes is what you expect before you accept the delivery???

Picked up a good copy of the S95B yesterday from Best Buy with this $1650 deal. No odd warps or bad pixels etc. Build of the TV is excessively thin, definately take care when mounting not to bend or twist. Once mounted, good to go and the unusual thin build decision is out of mind.
The OS on the TV is pretty awful. Coming from a Q9FN, LG CX, Hisense, LG C1 this TV's built in OS is just simply poorly designed. Thankfully using a harmony remote, Apple and Nvidia unit to avoid needing to use the Tzein OS.
Picture is excellent, like a light cannon with the default firmware. This unit has 1098 and will not be touching it until the dust settles on the firmware development. Great out of the box.
The ATSC 3.0 tuner is working well too.
Thanks to OP for identifying this great deal.

Watch the reviews on youtube. Samsung nerfs the brightness. You probably don't ever want to update that firmware.

I agree; however, I noticed this says the LG is better for a room with natural light. I have so many windows, so likely best to wait for a BF deal on the LG.

Looks like the LG better in rooms with a lot of natural light. That's the deal breaker for me.
