Plasmas had a lot of issues that OLEDs don't. Plasmas did not showcase wells in show rooms. I sold TVs at Sears back in 2008 and 90% of customers did not want a Plasmas despite it being the superior in almost every single aspect. Stores were told to set LCDs to Dynamic mode which made the screens brighter and colors pop despite it looking complete garbage. Plasmas looked dimmer and less vibrant as a result. Plasmas were also super heavy as well. I think a 55" was close to 100lbs. That is simply insane. As salespeople, we were told to prioritize LCDs over Plasmas and tucked away all the Plasmas to the side like the ugly red headed step child.
Second, it was really hard to scale up plasmas so as TVs switched to 4K, it was really hard to make a plasmas fit that resolution without making the display humongous in physical size.
LCDs were also cheaper to make and ultimately out marketed plasmas. The only real issue OLEDs share with plasmas that I can think of is burn-in but plasmas at the time had it WAY worse than any modern day OLED.
