I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it blocks your tag and you get pulled over, be polite, tell them you hadn't realized it, thank them for letting you know and you'll fix it. If you get a ticket, google the local law when you get home. If it didn't apply to your situation, go to traffic court and explain to the judge. The problem people get into with the police is when they try to adjudicate the case on the side of the road. Even if they aren't "nice" to you, remain calm and treat them the way you'd want to be treated if you were wearing their uniform and doing their job. You could be the #1 citizen in the community or a serial killer. They have no way of knowing from a brief roadside encounter. Lol.
I think having a full 2" bar is preferable to an adapted 1-1/4", assuming one has a 2" hitch, and the 2" version is necessary if you want to expand it to 4-bikes.

REI also has the 2-bike add-on on sale for $300: https://www.rei.com/product/10316...dd-on-2-in

The 1-1/4" version of the T2 Classic appears to be no longer available from REI.
Wheel mount bike racks are primarily for expensive bikes. You can damage the frame with the hanging type racks. Hanging type racks are suitable for most bikes under 5k new and are 1/3 the cost.

Looks like a great deal. Just be aware that it's for 2 inch hitches only, where as most 2-bike racks fit 1.25" and 2" hitches.

Just saw a review seconds ago saying it won't work well with front fenders. The bikes are secured via front tire pressure from the hooks and fenders won't allow it to be fully secure.

That's what I recalled... Might get it tucked under the fender on some bikes.
The Saris Freedom 2 works with fenders.

...and another option is to just chop off the front of it.

Dang you slickdeals. Sent me down the bike rack rabbit hole.

The Helium Platform is also on sale for $599 on REI and $519 on Backcountry. It seems to have some of the benefits of the Pro XT/XTR such as the easy hitch install and lever to drop the rack with bikes loaded to access the trunk but much more limited on what type of bike can fit.

One of the cons of the classic is you have to buy the wheel to rack lock separately, but the fancy integrated cable that comes with the more expensive racks that lock the bike to the frame aren't that great either such that a bolt cutter can remove. Anyone know if you can just pair the wheel lock + a U lock for maximum security?

I have had this model for years and it's a tank (I have the 2+2) . The ease of getting your bike off and on is a huge plus, but also significantly reducing the chance of damage to your frame like hanger style carriers can cause

I use a heavy 4ga cable looped through the bike frames and through the hitch; Locked together at the end's. I have the Thule core locks too and use them while running a quick errand after a ride.

I had this for 2 years. It's solid! I feel totally confident driving my bikes around. It's an awesome rack. They have an extender to add an additional 2 bikes.

I have a hanging rack but it doesn't work with my Hyper Ebike. Due to its weight and shape. Is this suitable for ebikes?

Great deal on a mid-range bike rack. I'm going to pass, though, as that plasticy structure just doesn't scream quality after a few months of real use.

Does it come with locks? I recently actually have bikes that I'd care if they were stolen or not. Also how easy is it to remove the whole thing?

This is a roll on rack though, not a frames hang. Roll ons are almost always 2" because of the racks weight alone plus the bikes.

60 pound max per bike. Someone above said that's great, but my e bike weighs about 90 pounds.
