I am also confused between these two options.
Looking answers for :
1. Better build quality? Metal hinges?
2. Burn ins in oled if using for code development and static images for most of the day.
3. ASUS has 1 slot to update ram. It can be updated upto 40GB.
4. What about the disk storage update?
5. Asus has larger Battery but could be similar battery time due to oled and intel HS CPU.
6. Is 14.5 more usable than 14"
7. How easy is to upgrade internal components - wifi, screen etc
8. Wi-Fi card? Intel or mediatek
9. Number of ports and type of ports.
10. +- 0.5 lbs shouldn't matter up to 3.5 lbs.
11. How about the performance and throttling.

I eyeballed the Asus at Costco today, and it's a great size and seems well made, but a glossy non-touch display is not my favorite thing in the world.

I heard someone mentioned that it has kind of matte finish.
How Glossy did it felt to you?

That OLED display, even if it glossy, is far brighter, has no backlight bleed and can still be used in outdoors than some of the 300-nits matte IPS displays.

Was at Costco myself yesterday to look at the Asus 14.5". And it was definitely a glossy screen. Not a fan myself of glossy screens, but more so because the location I would have it in has a window right behind me, and I know its going to reflect on it. Other than that, that Asus look beautiful. Costco also had a nice ZenBook with the same screen (but 14"), and came with 16gb/1TB, for $1,199.

The display description on the site says "Glare" as one of the features. Was this supposed to be "anti-glare" or is the screen glossy?

It's a touchscreen, meaning it is Glossy.

If only it was 90-120Hz. Otherwise those are some jaw-dropping specs for a $800 laptop. I remember my first one was the Gateway MT3705 back in 2006. Windows Vista...1GB RAM, 120GB 4200RPM HDD. Times have changed.

Not that big of a deal. Wish it was brighter. That's the real noticable difference

Hell, no, one of the weaknesses of OLED versus IPS is actually lower brightness. That's marketing bs that OLED is much better than IPS.

You didn't realise the fact that we are talking about the IPS and OLED panel options available for this laptop, not what is technically possible. Looks like you tried to act smart too hard, without even reading the context.

Not a bad price, these were on sale with older Ryzen 5000 series for $750 before. So $830 for 1TB + great 2240x1400 res IPS 100% sRGB is not bad at that price.
