Inverter generators are much quieter than their non-inverter counterparts. 50-60db compared to 90-100db. They also supply "clean" power with low THD, whereas traditional generators have much higher THD, not suitable for sensitive electronics like smart phones, tablets, laptops etc.

This comes up every time a generator deal comes around, but nobody ever provides any supporting info of actual documented research on THD harming electrical components, only the concept itself.
Also 90-100dB is a bit aggressive, other Firman models are rated at 74dB (like the 7500w running costco sells)
Id run a large inverter gen if they were affordable at the capacity I needed, but thats not the case unfortunately.

60 seconds of searching will give you info:

Conventional Generator and THD
Due to uneven loads and alternators, these generators have high levels of THD and sometimes reach 25%, which is not safe for electrical equipment. They are not also recommended for sensitive electronics.

If you want to risk it, thats your choice to make. We have way too many devices to risk it.

Again, all that is is a link that described THD and its application, nowhere does it reference anyone testing components for an extended time at specific THD levels.
Its all conceptual with no specific, tested limits.
None of their references in that article have tested components either.

Even a 5 decibel difference is huge to the ears and anything over 70db can cause hearing damage over a prolonged period of time. If you aren't traveling or live in the city than just buy as big as you can afford, at least that's what I would do.

This will probably be $699 in-store, as they usually charge an extra $50 online. I bought mine in March and they were $600 in-store and it's been great so far, although I haven't lost power, just have tested it with different appliances in my home. The huge benefit for me is being able to use propane, as it's easier to store and prices for propane don't typically fluctuate as high like gasoline does.

I got it a few months ago at $600 in store. It works pretty well and it is not too noisy (~58db without load at 23ft). Make sure you break it in properly and use a magnetic oil plug. If you want more information, check out the previous thread below:

Did you have to buy a magnetic oil plug separately? Which one did you get?

Yes. I posted it in that old thread. Basically, it is the same one for Champion 3400/3500/3100 inverter generator.

There are multiple sellers in US with the same price (with shipping included). Cheaper if you can wait for weeks and order overseas. It is not worth it though as it is only a few dollars cheaper at most.
