I posted this set because it was a decent price for what is clearly mediocre quality hardside luggage. "Protocol" is an old brand, it's just cheap overseas stuff they slap that name on. It has always been cheap luggage. It serves a purpose for some people but if you are looking at this as your main set for flying I wouldn't get it. To be clear I disagree wtih people saying "ABS bad, Polycarb good". There is great ABS luggage and really poor polycarb luggage. Take a look at the 100% polycarb American Tourister 3 piece set that is on SD right now, lots of people saying that set broke for them as well in the comments. What matters is the overall structural design, density of the plastic resin and structural support. With that said, yes it is commonly said that polycarbonate is more resistant to cracking than ABS but the chemical resin is just one component is structural integrity of luggage.
I personally ended up buying the single piece Swiss Gear large suitcase for the $80 deal that a staff member posted last night. It's out of stock now though. It's ABS but very good reviews, better than most cheap polycarbonate pieces.
