That being said, you are not wrong that people now need to start looking for LED or Laser projectors as the prices are finally down to earth for most. That does not mean if you can get a very high end bulb projector for a good price you should pass up on it, cause they are still worth it and offer excellent picture and longevity.

The Optoma UHD50X is one of the best-selling 4K projectors on the market. However, it is not without its issues. One of the most common complaints about this projector is white dots on the screen......whoops....looks like why I see so many refurbished units.

Lol I will doubt you, cause I am more experienced than you. Been using projectors for well over 20 years now and only had to replace 1 bulb in my lifetime. I used my projectors as daily drivers so they were on a lot, and even at max output most bulbs lasted almost 4 years. Bulbs only usually fail right at the beginning of ownership cause they are not stress tested when first installed, and the other reason they fail is if you improperly shutdown the projector or experience a power loss while viewing and the bulb cant cool itself off quick enough. They hardly ever fail for any other reason unless you have a defective projector, which like i said you would notice right away.
That being said, you are not wrong that people now need to start looking for LED or Laser projectors as the prices are finally down to earth for most. That does not mean if you can get a very high end bulb projector for a good price you should pass up on it, cause they are still worth it and offer excellent picture and longevity.
The only downside of this projector is that its using a bulb, even though its an arc bulb which is a high end version of a projector bulb. It only has a mono speaker if your planning on only using the projector for your sound. Finally it has no ARC or EARC to use with sound bars.
This is a VERY tempting projector for me since I would use it as a daily driver, right now the main projector I am waiting to become more widely available is the Benq X3000i, it has eARC and also a LED light source, unfortunately compared to this it is way more expensive with a starting price of $2000.
I have not heard of the white dot issue happening on this model compared to the UHD50 as another poster mentioned so hopefully thats all worked out. Really close to pulling the trigger.

I believe this projector only has HDMI 2.0 ports, so 4k60hz is highest you can get for gaming.

My mistake, editing it out of the main reply to not cause confusion.
Instead why not just buy a good true 4K LED TV 85-86" for $1300-2000 and forget about projector bulbs, mounting distances, ambient light problems, etc.? Genuinely looking for someone to change my mind.
I can think of 2 arguments:
1) Bigger screen size for the price at 100"+. Problem is, with standard 8' ceilings most folks have, you're limited to about a 100" screen size to have the recommended 1' above and 3' space below. Is the extra 14" really worth the projector downsides?
2) 3D. This is a good argument for me because I do enjoy 3D content and projectors seem to be the only option now. However, since 3D for TV's is pretty much dead, will we continue to even find 3D movies/games at home?
