Trying googling "Optoma white dot" for more information.
That being said, you are not wrong that people now need to start looking for LED or Laser projectors as the prices are finally down to earth for most. That does not mean if you can get a very high end bulb projector for a good price you should pass up on it, cause they are still worth it and offer excellent picture and longevity.

The Optoma UHD50X is one of the best-selling 4K projectors on the market. However, it is not without its issues. One of the most common complaints about this projector is white dots on the screen......whoops....looks like why I see so many refurbished units.

Lol I will doubt you, cause I am more experienced than you. Been using projectors for well over 20 years now and only had to replace 1 bulb in my lifetime. I used my projectors as daily drivers so they were on a lot, and even at max output most bulbs lasted almost 4 years. Bulbs only usually fail right at the beginning of ownership cause they are not stress tested when first installed, and the other reason they fail is if you improperly shutdown the projector or experience a power loss while viewing and the bulb cant cool itself off quick enough. They hardly ever fail for any other reason unless you have a defective projector, which like i said you would notice right away.

The only downside of this projector is that its using a bulb, even though its an arc bulb which is a high end version of a projector bulb. It only has a mono speaker if your planning on only using the projector for your sound. Finally it has no ARC or EARC to use with sound bars.
This is a VERY tempting projector for me since I would use it as a daily driver, right now the main projector I am waiting to become more widely available is the Benq X3000i, it has eARC and also a LED light source, unfortunately compared to this it is way more expensive with a starting price of $2000.
I have not heard of the white dot issue happening on this model compared to the UHD50 as another poster mentioned so hopefully thats all worked out. Really close to pulling the trigger.

My mistake, editing it out of the main reply to not cause confusion.
Instead why not just buy a good true 4K LED TV 85-86" for $1300-2000 and forget about projector bulbs, mounting distances, ambient light problems, etc.? Genuinely looking for someone to change my mind.
I can think of 2 arguments:
1) Bigger screen size for the price at 100"+. Problem is, with standard 8' ceilings most folks have, you're limited to about a 100" screen size to have the recommended 1' above and 3' space below. Is the extra 14" really worth the projector downsides?
2) 3D. This is a good argument for me because I do enjoy 3D content and projectors seem to be the only option now. However, since 3D for TV's is pretty much dead, will we continue to even find 3D movies/games at home?

First yes the whole fake vs real 4k, unless you are sitting within like 5 feet of the screen and have a very sharp eye you will NEVER notice the difference.
Second about needing a screen, completely incorrect no screen is needed and it can still look incredible, if you want a screen it will look even better but a standard $100-200 screen will do without a problem.
Third laser being expensive yes it is, but right now you can find multiple projectors around the $2k price point and sometimes as low as $1200 when on sale AKA the Wemax Nova UST that goes on sale every two to three weeks till they clear their inventories cause its not really that good.
Worrying about a bulb that you in most cases wont have to change till like 4 years down the line is pretty much a no issue, I only changed bulbs in one projector, every other projector I ever owned I sold after 3ish years at a good price on ebay or through local offerups cause I wanted newer or better technology. As for mounting yes that is a issue but if you have a dedicated space you always use for viewing its not an expensive investment to drill a hole or get a bookshelf to put a projector on. Now with the more and more common UST you dont even need that you just put it on a tv stand or coffee table as close as a foot from the wall and get a 120" image.
1. As I mentioned screens can be had for cheap and work well, even the expensive ALR screen unless you add motorized can be had for under $1000. I used a grey wolf screen 120" now for almost 10 years and it came free with my projector but it cost around $200 at the time. People who always saw my projections were more awed than their, plasma, LED, or any other 65-85" TV. Sometimes just making your own screen is the best option if you dont have a nice whitewall, or even using projector paint and creating a nice outline and border can be done.
2. I love 3-D and the format will be around for minimum another 10 years as multiple movies are scheduled for production in the future in that format. 3-D is the highest selling format in countries like China, Japan, SK, and some European countries, it seems it only never took off in the US, but movie theaters will have 3-D movies for years to come as it makes good money for them. As long as the format stays popular in China which it will, it wont be going anywhere till a new type of immersive technology comes along.
You are welcome enjoy your future projector, this seems like a great buy but I really want the X3000i so I still have not pulled the trigger.

Now, the industry has evolved a lot the past few years. I'm thinking to possibly upgrade to a top-of-the-line JVC if possible. We have now gotten to the point where we can get laser projectors with native 4K / 120Hz and 2X pixel-shifting for around ~7K and 4X pixel-shifting, higher brightness, color filter, etc. for above 10K. Evidently full HDMI 2.1 support. notably, JVC has better blacks than Optoma and even Sony. Plenty of new options from other manufacturers as well, it's a great time for projector technology.
I might want to offload the Optoma. It is very tempting at this point. I do recommend Optoma for good quality projectors at lower prices, though I haven't surveyed all the new options these days.
