I have the half off deal, and I am honestly having a hard time justifying that. I haven't watched anything on HBO/MAX for a couple of months.

I plan on waiting another year before I jump on one of these deals. That way I'll see how HBO shakes out and how House of the Dragon turns out.

I have read on The Streamable that's it's 4 minutes per hour.
That seems very low.

Before buying this be aware the new Discovery made CEO pretty much canceled all the new DC shows and a bunch of movies including movies nearly complete for tax write offs.

The "year" of content is pretty much what it currently has while everything gets slowly dropped off, don't expect new stuff.

I am truly considering getting rid of Netflix and it costs $20/month ... CRAZY expensive... HBOMax appears to be far better...

I have ATT fiber which includes HBO max for free (had it for 2 years at least) and I just upgraded my plan to which they informed me I have now lost HBO max because the new plans don't offer it anymore. All these companies are corrupt scum bags honestly.

The only reason I have to keep it (and now pay for it) is because my toddler has been watching wizard of oz like every day for a month straight. Lately the content has been bleak. My wife was all excited to see the new Elvis movie but they pulled it back and delayed when it will hit the service. Seems like it's now just offering bare minimum until the merger with discovery either makes it better or puts the nail in the coffin

Meh, but thanks for the link to the deal because I gotta pony up to keep a smile on the little ones face

So, the with ads deal does not offer 4k streaming?

Even on the HBO website, 4k streaming is only mentioned in the no ads package.

I was going to sign up for a year earlier with the Amex offer, but figured I'll see what others think of the Dragon show first. Then I'll just buy a month when the season is over.
If you have Xfinity/Comcast, I'm pretty sure they're going to do a HBO/Cinemax free preview right after Labor Day, Sept 6 to 10.

So I should be able to watch the first 3 episodes of House of the Dragon to see if it's decent. And my $25 off $99 Amex offer is good until 9/15/22.

I browse from time to time and will find a binge worthy show from time to time. I used to like watching Cold Case back in the day mostly because the music that they played was sourced from the same time that the murder was depicted. They also used the same type of film to shoot certain scenes from the same era. Although, I'll say that it's sometimes kind of cheesey to see the co-stars guess who the murderer was while the main character is depicted as having some sort of clairvoyance. Aside from that, wasn't that bad a series.

And then there are the stand-up specials that are littered all over.

But the biggest reason I'm staying with HBO is that AT&T promised me lifetime HBO while I was a paying customer, and now that they've sold off HBO, I figure it costs them more to keep giving me HBO for free, so I'm keeping it "for spite".

There are a lotta great shows on hbo max, despite the negativity of this thread

I don't care about movies, but here's some good tv, imo:

Most recently I loved Tokyo Vice (american journalist investigates yakuza crime drama), the latest season of Westworld, the Taika Watiti comedy Our Flag Means Death (very silly pirate show), The Flight Attendant (Kaley Cuoco comedy thriller), and Barry (dark comedy).

Looking forward to the new GoT show and (much later) the new Dune tv show

You couldn't just buy a wizard of oz DVD?

Same boat. I review their catalogue every week but barring Dunes & Jurrasic park, haven't watched anything of use yet… keep spending money renting prime movies w sub par Netflix collection also on hold… Hope one of Netflix or HBO max can pick up the quality of content. Netflix seems to be spending a lot but content is sh**

I thought HBOMax as we know it would be replaced by a HBO/Discovery combo. Wonder what would happen to those buying the year.

And I agree. Content is pretty basic nowadays to justify the cost
I'm with you. The content is weak imo. Hit or miss. Not worth 15$.

Their content is great when they actually release it. They haven't put anything decent out in months. I also read they were going to be replaced with HBO/Discovery, sometime next summer. I wonder how that will affect their current customers.
