I just bought the PNY 3090 for $1050. Seems to be on sale everywhere. I couldn't see any problems with it in reviews that suggested it should be $150 less than other cards.
I probably could wait to see how video card prices come down, but honestly reasonable prices are good enough for me at this point. I built my current PC with parts from 7 years ago, which were themselves 1- 2 years old, and performance / dollar optimized. And after working from home on it for 2 years I can say I desperately need more breathing room with the myriad things I do with my PC and how much of it I often have open concurrently.
I game at 1080p and I *might* switch to a 4k monitor and try gaming at native resolution. Maybe I'll be a convert once I get there, but I've had this feeling that beyond 1080p it's just too much resolution for me to appreciate. Probably flawed logic. Anyway, the 3090 is probably far more beastly a graphics card for the level at which I game than I need. But what I really want it for is the memory for creating AI generated images on my local machine. It looks like Stable Diffusion is coming out soon and it doesn't even need that much memory. But it was looking like I needed at least 16GB of memory in Disco Diffusion and there wasn't much in the way of options so it was go big or go home.
Here's hoping I bought a card that isn't going to give me any grief and won't depreciate another $500 in 6 months. But if it does, so be it.
I usually rag on these for this reason, but i mean once you do it you did it. don't do that to yourself. It's fine it's a toy, its' not a mutual fund. I'd wait, but it has a lot of ram and it doesn't make you a bad person. you live one time man. That said just calling out i think for a lot of angles this should have been pretty much the normal price it makes very little difference between this and aa 6800 or 3080 for gaming. We all know that's true, but whatever right. It's fun you feel good go for it that's what counts. You could have done a ton worse doing this 6 months ago, and i can pretty much guarantee you can do a ton better in a few months it is what it is.imagine those people that bought this for 2-3k last spring. That was definably a hard pass. I think we should just accept that this level of graphics card when you buy them at the end like this they will tane in value. Nothing new. Also, by the way at least you can get it w/o drama and stop watching this stuff if you can do something other than gaming there is value to the ram size. I'm in the wait category and have to keep staring at this crap that alone to be done with is probably nice.
This is the one i'm hoping for one one of these on ebay for 5-600 like you see with 20 series. Yeah, tech always gets better, but it's the timing and the current prices. You might miss this but it's still a grand and really there are cheaper cards that do the same thing for gaming. But i agree for some people they don't want the drama maybe they want the ram or whatever... or just trying to get something new the next 5 months after the last 3 years that alone has to be worth it to avoid for some. If i were these guys that would be my point. It's hard to argue. You can get product in hand today and can afford it. i don't' care if it drops or not. i've got nothing much to say to that. This is actually a great comment. Helping each other clear this old stuff, and hopefully ultimately drop prices more when the new stuff comes. I wouldn't' want this at this price, but totally understand why people do. This is actually a better value than the 3080 ti now. I feel that's the worst. probably the best have been the 12gb or 68-900XT (amd) ones in the high tier. I saw a 12gb for 680 on lenovo a few weeks back. that was getting there. If you could get one of those new for 600 i think that's pretty good. it's going to lose maybe 1-200 in the next few months and it's good enough for the next couple years. and you can just get it.
Everyone is stressed by different things. Here's hoping we can back to just playing games again and having fun as a pc community. i know one thing this isn't as fun covid and mining sucked. I think people have a right to be a little exhausted on both sides of this.

You should also be able to buy a house for $50,000
a house is an investment you live in. They dont' typically drop in value by 50 percent in 2 months in a predictable manner. I think if you know this and are willing to accept it to not have the hassle of getting the new thing it's a better way of looking at it. And by the way i think that makes sense. The last few years have been hell for getting a video card. I can totally see someone saying i'll pay double to not have to look at video cards for 4-5 years. I wont' touch this but i literally am tempted as think about it for that reason alone.

And a 5060 will trash this thing in price vs performance. PASS
You fools. No reasonably smart person would hop on this deal when a 6050ti will tear it to shreds at a fraction of the price. Just wait it out. Be strong. Easily worth the wait. Even with scalpers.
After buying an EVGA TITAN X Hybrid, I'll never go back to an annoyingly loud air-cooled GPU. If you can afford $1,000+ for a video card then pay slightly more for water cooling.
You're one of the many spewing self righteous sarcastic junk for months when I've criticized their precious GPU deal. I understand not wanting to feel like you've been ripped off, but it's amazing to see people attacking facts as they are unfolding.
Meanwhile, back in reality, everything I've been saying about the GPU market and price crashes happening, has happened and is continuing...because logic isn't emotional.
It isn't just rumors and hype. The lithography is shrinking to 4N, which will push transistor densities off the charts. The 2XXX was 12nm, the 3XXX was 8nm, die sizes of 445mm^2 and 392mm^2, and transistor counts at 10.8B and 17.4B respectively. So, with around 61% more transistors at around the same die size, the RTX 3070 is around 45% faster. So 45% performance improvement with a 33% reduction in the lithography size at the same die size.
We could delve into mathematical extrapolations for pages, but if a 33% lithography improvement brought 61% more transistors and 45% higher performance, a larger lithography reduction would bring larger percentage increases in both all else equal. Even if the die size were smaller, it could still have higher transistor and performance percentage advantages than the 3070 to 2070 comparison, and transistor counts are still the main factor with standard rendering performance.
If the 4070 is equal to or faster than 45% above the 3070, then now we're around 3080 Ti performance. It's being estimated around 3090 performance, which when considered in light of the aforementioned, nearly every major tech source leak, increased AMD competition, and a crashing market that would demand a significant improvement to keep sales numbers and revenues reasonable, it's not only reasonable but probable that the 4070 will be near or at 3090 performance.
Sure, I can follow that.
There are, however, a few critical unknowns.
1. price of 4070 - your best guess?
2. 4070 being better than a 3080 is about right - that's how it's always been about. 2070 better than 1080, etc. but 3090 isn't just faster than 3080, it's also got a heck of a lot more ram, etc.

I have no idea what AI stuff you are talking about - I think I read an article on AI generated pictures yesterday? Didn't understand much other than there was a pretty cool looking AI generated chick.
Your gaming rig is sure weird though lol.... 9 year old cpu (yikes that's like haswell at best), rtx 3090, and a 1080p? I dare not ask what refresh rate, panel type, or size...
not that I am criticizing... those old CPUs can still game quite nicely, especially if you are like me and not into pop games
So I just got a good deal on a 3080 through Best Buy for $675 before tax. I only play MSFS on VR. Would this be a worthy upgrade?
10 or 12 gb 3080? If 12gb definitely not, if 10GB it's a pretty meh upgrade, especially when you'll still probably have to take a small loss selling the 3080 nowadays.

May want to wait as prices of the 3000series will drop later this year.
