Our shop uses these type of ecoboxes. We're pretty heavy handed with them and they've never leaked. Some of them stay opened on the shelf for up to a year without issue.
I had not heard of this brand, so I looked at the Petroleum Quality Institute of America site. The additive packages look good for this oil:

Decent amounts of moly, boron and zinc.
Is motor oil legal in CA?

One year when the oil is in the car. Shelf life is way more than a year.
Exactly this.

In stocking up on previous deals I've read that shelf life is probably around 5 years or so.

Shelf life is about 5 years right? If I change oil 1-2 times a year I should be able to make use of it.
No, it's not.

Nice find OP. Getting 2 boxes of the 0W-20. Wish the 5W-30 Full Synthetic was also in stock.

I assume Pennzoil always said that, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still contain wax. It has to do with it being Pennsylvania crude oil which has the wax, and other oils (Quaker?) that use the same oil. When I was in the business we only used mid-continent oil, nothing from the NE. When we would pop a valve cover, we knew immediately it was Pennzoil or another Pennsylvania crude product.

Found this on the Bob The Oil Guy site:
"Pennzoil, and other oils like it, stopped being made of actual Pennsylvania crude in the mid-1960's. There is a 1979 article in Popular Science about using advanced extraction techniques to get more oil out of the Penn fields, and in that article they specifically say that Pennzoil and others 'haven't been made from Penn-souced crudes for ages'! Only oil these days, made from a 'significan't amount' of actual Pennsylvania crude is Brad-Penn oils, and even they use other basestocks in their base oil blends."

That same page had many references to the wax in Pennzoil. What I did find out is that they were bought by Quaker, and then later Shell. The other issue I had was the cans used to say, "Made from 100% Pennsylvania Crude", and then a sticker saying they had 7% additives. How can you be 100% crude AND 7% additives?

It is probably not wise to carry old grudges, but I do.
Have seen this on other products and the explanation was...the crude (oil) portion of it is 100% PA, the 'end product' contains 7% additives also

According to a 2021 survey conducted by NOLN (National Oil & Lube News), DuraMAX ranks as the best-selling oil brand by Quick Lube Owners. DuraMAX has held this ranking now since 2018. Our robust line of motor oils and ancillary products offer high performance and ultimate engine protection for nearly all makes and models on the market. You can depend on DuraMAX to power your business through high quality products and customer retention programs
Not so sure that Quick Lube owners selling this the most indicates anything other than it's the cheapest stuff they can get.

Doesn't mean it's not good oil, but...

I have a Grainger some miles from me here in California. When I try to order for in-store pick-up, it says

You could read the report on DuraMAX oil from the Petroleum Quality Institute of America, an independent resource on the quality and integrity of lubricants. https://pqia.org/duramax-5w-30-full-synthetic/
The cheapest retail oil you can buy, Supertech from Walmart, is a good oil. So...

Your local Grainger probably doesn't stock this oil as it looks to ship directly from the manufacturer. I believe the sale of oil is restricted in California.

how easy is it to measure out and dispense the number of quarts needed?
I would be very easy to dispense 144 quarts however you want if you have this setup.
