You can use knorr sides rice or noodles. Another option is to roll your own dehydrated meals in quart Ziploc bags. There was a deal on the black bean burger from this company , which I like mixed with taco seasoning, instant rice, and mac and cheese powder ( which you can also buy in bulk) to make a little burrito stuffing dinner for when I hike. Most powdered soups, you can add mashed potatoes or instant rice and throw them in a Ziploc bag to just add hot water later on your hike. That thickens it up to make it easier to eat from the bag. If you don't have long spoons, Baskin-Robbins spoons are long and I don't feel bad if I lose them because they weren't like 20 bucks. Another meal I really like is to take stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy mix. But the stuffing takes up a lot of space even though it doesn't weigh much so he can't pack many of those for a hike.

Just received these day before yesterday. They are tart. The color was bright red and they were tasty, but definitely on the tart side. I don't mind because I bought them to add some crunch to salads as I'm diabetic and croutons are a no no because of the carb count. With only 6 net carbs per 1/2 cup, this is a good option for me.

Trader Joe's same price per / oz but much smaller portions ($2.99/1.2 oz) for those who aren't familiar with this.

If you're adding this to your MREs, you and I need to hang out more often.
