I have this model. My experience is with transporting full suspension mtn bikes. Fitting 4 bikes is a challenge and require frame adapters. Because of the tight fit I only transport 2 bikes at a time on the 4 bike carrier to avoid any scratches and damage to the paint finish. For transporting 4 bikes I ended up getting a Yakima hang-tight 6 bike vertical rack.

I have the FullSwing version of this attachment on our Mazda CX-5, which I have used twice since to carry 2 adult bikes. I have been pleased; although, there is some noticeable side-to-side wobble within my Curt hitch receiver. When bikes are loaded and even when driving, that wobble is not noticed, but it is still something that I would like to control. I tried ordering and installing a hitch tightener but the button depress lock on the attachment's tongue does not allow for standard size tighteners to be installed, where the width comes to ~2.75" and is too large for any ring clasp to fit over. I just ordered the following last night to try and combat this (see link below); other recommendations by Yakima included shimming the hitch receiver with soda can cutouts. I hope this helps anyone considering this model.

The rack type that holds your bike by the wheels/tires is a far superior option if your budget allows. Much easier to use and safer for your bike.

I've had this exact rack for about two years. Our Escape has a 2" receiver and it is very stable. Using it on a 1.25" was a bit more wobbly when carrying four bikes, but has been fine. Used it generally for 2 bikes, but have carried the full complement of four literally thousands of miles. The road bikes are all in the 19-23lb range, but we've carried 4 mountain bikes that were each in the low 30s with no issues.

Road bikes with a horizontal top tube can fit four bikes easily
For compact geometry or any kind of mountain bike we've needed to use frame bars. We have he SARIS ones, they were about $40 each.

Having the cable lock built in is nice. I wouldn't really trust it for any length of time but it keeps thieves of opportunity from easily just walking off with our rides. Fine at the gas stations if you run in to grab a snack or whatever. I wouldn't leave it overnight anywhere. If you use the frame bar though the cable doesn't actually attach lock the bike itself to the rack, even though it looks like it does.

Note, the whole contraption weighs about 45lbs.

***edit***
For reference I bought mine from REI in June of 202 for $293.30 (and got 5% in REI dividends for using their CC)

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I'm just getting back into biking after several years and am in the market for something like this. I recently picked up a step-through Trek Vertex+2, would a step-through work on this style of a mount? The picture shows the latches attaching to the horizontal bar that wouldn't be present on step-throughs.
You will need an adapter like this [yakima.com] for a step through, womens, or kids bike. I don't know if you need the Yakima one but any one from a decent manufacturer like Thule or Saris should work. Just don't get the cheapest one lol.

I had bought a 5 bike rack during last deal for my Honda Pilot which doesn't come with a hitch connector. Do you guys have any recommendations on where to get it installed. The dealer is giving a very high quote. TIA.

Excellent point, I didn't realize this when I bought the similar FullSwing several years ago that the bikes can hit each other when you have 4 of them on the rack. I've found that some cheap foam pipe insulation [homedepot.com] helps quite a bit with this, but it's still tedious when the rack is fully loaded.

it's great...only issue (big issue) on these is the lock mechanism breaks...happened to me. You can still use it perfectly, but it can be stolen. The way it is designed, you cannot use an aftermarket pin with a lock if the lock on this fails. For this price, that would not stop me from buying this. Just don't be rough with the lock if that makes sense.
I was thinking about drilling a hole through to accommodate an aftermarket pin lock. Haven't tried yet.

I thought about that too but that would interfere with the way that bike rack tightens when in the hitch. hard to explain without a visual...look at pics of the part that goes into the receiver. it basically goes into the hitch, your turn a knob and it expands in the receiver until tight. it would interfere with that.

Any coupon for free shipping?

$44.78 for the shipping cost (Fedex Ground) is very expensive and steep.
About $41 shipping cost to Atlanta. Sort of kills the deal for me. Would love to see a free shipping code! LMAO
