Agreed, but still a solid platform with some great specs for the price. In another thread we were discussing this CPU versus the more current Acer J4125 deal, and this i5-6500 has a CPU Mark score almost double the J4125. Would be a great upgrade for someone running older hardware at home or a small office, without spending a lot.

But i5-6500 uses 6x more electricity than the j4124.

Good value. It won't support Windows 11, so after about 3 years it would need to be converted to a Linux machine.

You think?
I still run windows 7 on a machine that is at least 8 years old. No issues.

I have considered "upgrading" to one of these so I could run a newer version of office. I currently use office 2010

I installed windows 11 on all my 5 to 10 years old laptops and desktops. No issues.

Microsoft has announced that they will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. That means that you can still run it, but security patches etc. will no longer be issued or installed. Which relegates it to non-internet connected use for security reasons.

Seems I remember that there was an ongoing program to get a free Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 7; it had something to do with users' need for access to special functions. Might be worth a look.

Edit: Windows 10 had its issues in the early days, but now it's every bit as stable as 7 was, in my opinion. The biggest issue I've had is that certain computers have a CPU usage issue with Edge browser; it maxes out CPU usage and makes the computer super slow and sometimes unresponsive. Using Chrome browser instead on those machines has totally fixed the issue.

And just like MS extended support for XP several times, they will do the same for 10. Its too popular not to extend

Also have an old laptop using 7. Good price here if fits your needs. Repped.

My hardware doesn't support it. I am happy with windows 7. It does what I need.

I hope you don't have that connected to the internet...

I have Core 2 Duo desktops (circa ~2008) running Win10 with no issues, and are still viable for tasks like surfing, automotive diagnostics, and streaming music, etc. Like the other commenter said about Windows 11, sometimes Microsoft's claims about supported hardware are a little too conservative.
