Southwest Airlines [southwest.com] have $39 one-way airfares travelling to and from islands in Hawaii. Two examples I've attached is for Honolulu (HNL) and Maui (OGG) and Maui (OGG) to Kona (KOA). Other islands are available as well.

Travel Availability: daily through mid-February 2023

hi, this is 'inter-island' travel, which means travelling from island to island within hawaii.

Intra means 'within'. Inter means 'between'. So inter probably fits better here but either are fine and not really worth grammar policing.

This has been normal interisland price for at least a few weeks. I booked 2.5 weeks ago at this price.

While I cannot speak for that as I have never faced any clear "hate" as a visitor in Hawaii, I can only guess the obnoxious, drunk, rude, impatient, clearly out of towner is probably a little less respected than the person who calmly enjoys what the state has to offer. The population is so varied it would be really hard for a person to know you were a tourist (without looking at your ID) unless you clearly acted the part. People vastly underestimate their own demeanor when traveling and how it impacts their enjoyment. When you get treated like Cousin Eddie, perhaps ask if you are acting like Cousin Eddie?
