You need to drop another $400 for it to be a "deal".

Apparently you don't know about Microsoft products and their pricing.

This would definitely drop another $400... After 2-3 years probably.

Surface has a unique form factor. This is just another Windows laptop with 2 years old processor.

Totally agree with you. If this was the surface pro with similar specs and keyboard it'd be great.

At this price point, for the laptop, with the now outdated specs, seems hard to justify the price when so many better specs and form factors (2 in 1, etc) could probably be had for $800ish

The new surface likely will be announced at Ignite in a few weeks. Surface laptops have held their value very well (go look at surface laptop 1 through 3 prices on amazon warehouse) but that might change with the 120hz screen with the surface laptop 5 coming out shortly.

Older processor, decent ram, below average storage amount. It's a decent 3:2 laptop, at a price that's not too horrible.

But at this price, it's absolutely not a bargain when compared to the Macbook Air M1 at just slightly more. That's the measuring stick that all laptops are measured against.

If someone is going to drop ~$800, do you specifically need Windows or that form factor? Is there an overwhelming positive to that specific model...because if not, then the MBA M1 sips power while being an absolute solid performer w/ excellent hardware (screen, keyboard, trackpad, overall build quality).

FYI the battery and RAM are non-replaceable on SL4s.

You're almost correct, the SSD is upgradable.

So, $899 M1 MacBook Air has 16GB RAM? Or 3:2 aspect ratio? Or touchscreen??

No, but it still runs faster, and is a better computer for most people.
