Nope- the 5600x will perform better in many games, often by a significant amount. If the processors were freeways, the 5600x would be a 6-lane with a 60 MPH speed limit, while the 3900x would be a 12-lane highway with a 45 MPH speed limit. Most gaming traffic (the data being processed) benefits more from a higher speed limit rather than more lanes (# of cores), even if the 3900x has more overall throughput. More contemporary games are getting better at using more cores, but but you have no reason to switch here given your stated use case.
You'd be killing it. $300 on the bay, after fees you would probably lose money
wish it is 5900

Just got a 5600.... for $130 after tax. I only game and consume stuff like youtube/tiktok/reddit. Do I need this?
Probably not. Your CPU is more than enough for those apps. This is more for multi-core hungry applications. Rendering, CAD, Virtual Machines, etc.

It looks like we, the buyers, in the drivers seat. Wait until Wednesday late AN when Nvidia will release their earnings and warn how bad the situation has become. CPU, GPU glut coming to a store near you Smilie

3900x never got enough love when it came out imo. Absolutely fantastic CPU for dev workloads. Can't even tell I'm running VM's most of the time.

Very good analogy. I have 5950x to fit in your scenario, in this case how many lanes at what speed for 5950x?

5950 has 16 cores, so 16 lanes

16 lane highway north, 16 lanes going south, 65mph speed limit but some people like to do 70.

alder lake:

12 autobahn lanes north and south, plus these weird one way surface streets running parallel that the locals use.

What about the 5800X3D?

8 lane highway north, 8 lane highway south, 65mph speed limit but rather than cars its all 18-wheelers?
