All old flashlights which don't have a soft switch but a mechanical switch have what is sold a as a battery guard here.

This one runs on 3 AAA batteries. So even if they go flat you can just replace them, not a lithium battery which needs to be protected.

I have these flashlights in all different sizes and I give them to my elderly parents and grandparents so when a power failure occurs they have light for a couple days. They know how to swap out alkaline batteries. I keep them in my car and in my go bag and I carry one at work. And I have these scattered around my house. The Firefly mode allows the batteries to last for years. But when you need a full blast of light, it's able to do so. Walking a dog with these keeps traffic from hitting you and Firefly mode. But you full blast can alert someone of your presence or scoot around the skunk in the distance. I'm actually a member on the subreddit flashlight. I'm a flashlight dork.
