This is not also an angle grinder, is it? I'm heavily invested in the m12 system, but I'm also thinking angle grinder for my next purchase. Should I be looking elsewhere?

Just a heads up ... I have Milwaukee's m 18 angle grinder. Although it is plenty powerful, it is difficult to hold on to reliably because of the awkward battery placement and there is no trigger lock so you are forced to hold it down the entire time with your awkwardly placed hand avoiding the battery. Also, grinders eat through batteries, so unless you're willing to use a heavy 8 or 12, you aren't going to get much use from it.

I've had this for several years now. One of my most used tools and I love it because of how handy it is, but it will aggravate you on metal. It's best for cutting tile and does that beautifully. I've cut a lot of thin metal like garage door opener mounts, garage ceiling rack mounts and roof flashing with it and it just bogs down and stops the blade quickly. The metal blade also wears out very fast. I've started using my Ryobi 18V more because it's the same tool with more power, but in a slightly bigger and less handy size. It works better on metal, but wears out the blade even faster since you can cut through things without the bog. I remodeled a kitchen in 2020 and used this for cutting, notching and trimming lots of small tiles. It works phenomenally in that application.

Are you talkin about the fuel or non fuel m18 version?

Where this tool shines is when you have to make a hole in the old plaster walls, add the tile/concrete blade and this will cut through like butter, this is my go to when having to add outlets in old home.

I value the 2.5 battery at $35. So its a good deal without hacking, but much better returning one of the batteries for $47. That brought the tool and battery to $71 which is slick.

While useful, and nicely sized/balanced, this tool feels cheap to me. Almost like a toy. Many parts are plastic that shouldn't be. I haven't had a problem, and I used mine to cut as deep as this could into stone, before taking a hammer and mallet to chip off the remainder of it. I like that there's a dust collection port, but again, that whole assembly feels cheap.

If I could do it over, I'm not sure if I would get it again. It just doesn't live up to the Milwaukee quality/name I've come to expect, although I did get it on sale so I think the price was similar to this. I think my Ridgid 18v Angle Grinder is often overkill, and this is much easier to use one-handed, so I find applications for it. But I'd hope Milwaukee revisits this tool and puts some more quality/effort into it. If they did that, I think it'd be an absolute winner (esp if they come out with an M12 Fuel model).

To be honest, I've used this for a few of times and I really tried my best to love it because it's so small, but it takes much longer to cut and kills the battery way to fast.

Cool little tool. As others said, it stalls very easily when cutting metal. I used mine the other day with a 2.5 ah high output battery exactly like the one in the deal and that battery got very hot during use.

apparently there's another version the 2887 that has a slide locking switch, but in my experience, slide locks jam in the own position in dusty environments. I prefer paddle locks.
