The 11900k wasnt a big upgrade, not in the slightest, but it is generally slighter faster, even with less cores.

IMO, spending anywhere near this much on LGA1200 is far, far from slick.

It's the price. These 11th gen CPUs are being clearanced out. Sure, at MSRP they are a ripoff. Where they are selling now with a motherboard and a game for around $350. They are priced very well for what you get.
